After Patch 15.0, Tactical can be built around ranged damage, Gun Strikes, Auspex support, or close combat—but those choices affect what weapons you can equip. A Power Sword, Power Axe, or One-Handed Thunder Hammer takes Tactical’s primary weapon slot; the Tactical Reserve Signature Perk instead replaces the secondary weapon with a Bolt Rifle. The official update describes options, not a tested universal best build, so choose perks to match how you want to fight.
What changed for Tactical in Patch 15.0?
Focus Entertainment’s Patch Notes 15.0, published October 1, 2026, describe “A rework of the Tactical class perks, offering more flexible customisation options to suit your playstyle – whether that’s using two primary weapons, taking down enemies with Gun Strike, or engaging in close combat – as well as an expansion of the Tactical class’s melee weapon arsenal.” The update also adjusted ranged weapon base damage, so older weapon comparisons may not reflect the current balance.

Starting perk and automatic reload
- The starting class perk lets Bolt Weapons penetrate one additional enemy and increases non-headshot damage for Bolter Weapons by 20%. Kraken Penetrator Rounds moved from the skill tree into this perk. These are patch values, not independent performance measurements.
- Prestige perk Exigency Charge was replaced by Passive Chambering: any unequipped ranged weapon reloads automatically after 10 seconds.
Gun Strike resilience
Focused Strike replaces Steady Aim. During a Gun Strike, it prevents loss of control from Heavy Hits and knockback, and reduces damage taken by 30%. It suits a build that deliberately commits to Gun Strikes and wants more protection while doing so.
Which Tactical perks should you use?
Build around the action you want to improve rather than treating every perk as part of one optimal tree. Patch 15.0 presents alternatives; it does not establish tested rankings or show that every option works best together. Check the in-game perk tree for exact placement and current wording, especially after later updates.

For ranged damage and scan uptime
- Improved Efficiency: increases Auspex Scan recharge speed by 25%.
- Marksman’s Mandate: enemies marked by Auspex Scan take 40% additional ranged damage; the patch notes also state that base damage is increased by 50%.
- Pulse Auspex: changes the scan to a single pulse instead of a scan zone, grants two charges, and reduces radius by 25%.
- Mobile Auspex: activates around the player, increases radius by 30%, and lasts four seconds longer than the listed five-second base duration.
These choices address different needs: recharge speed, a second pulse, a larger mobile scan, or more ranged damage against marked enemies. They are not interchangeable in how they apply the scan.
For melee, Gun Strikes, and squad support
- Bladesman’s Mandate: marked enemies take 60% more melee damage and 20% more Gun Strike damage; the patch notes say base damage is increased by 50%.
- Strongpoint: you and squad members inside the Auspex Scan area deal 20% more melee damage and take 20% less health damage.
- Prime Target: activating Auspex Scan applies a Gun Strike mark to the most dangerous enemy in range.
For a priority target or cooldown refund
- Marked for Death: weakens one Majoris- or Extremis-level enemy in range and increases all Auspex damage bonuses against that target by 100%.
- Vital Data: restores 50% of Auspex Scan’s charge when scanning an Extremis- or Terminus-level enemy. Because the patch notes describe this within a replacement sequence, use the live in-game tree to confirm its slot.
Can Tactical use a power sword and Bolt Rifle?
Not as a standard loadout with a primary-slot rifle. Patch 15.0 adds the Power Sword, Power Axe, and One-Handed Thunder Hammer to Tactical, but equipping one means Tactical cannot equip a Primary weapon. The Warhammer Community anniversary update, also published October 1, 2026, explains that the one-handed hammer is faster than its two-handed counterpart and can charge area-of-effect attacks.
Rank #2
- Brand new. UK Import PAL version. Game in English. UK PSN account may be required for any online features.
There is a separate way to carry a Bolt Rifle: Tactical Reserve is a Signature Perk that replaces the secondary weapon with a regular Primary Bolt Rifle. The publisher says its progression is shared with the Bolt Rifle’s normal primary-slot version. This is a different tradeoff from taking a new melee weapon: it does not mean Tactical can equip a melee weapon, a primary rifle, and a secondary-slot rifle all at once.
How do the Patch 15.0 ranged weapon changes affect Tactical?
Focus Entertainment’s Patch 15.0 lists these base-damage adjustments. They are balance changes, not comparative weapon tests or proof of a best weapon.

| Weapon | Patch 15.0 base-damage change |

| Auto Bolt Rifle | Increased by 15% |

The update also says most primary weapons received buffs as compensation for a reduced Auspex Scan damage bonus. Weapon changes and scan changes therefore belong to the same balance context; a single base-damage percentage cannot by itself establish which weapon or full build performs best.

Use these tradeoffs to make a practical choice, then confirm the live perk tree and weapon availability in-game. Official patch notes do not provide DPS rankings, clear-time comparisons, or difficulty-specific winners.
| If you want to prioritize… | Build decision | Tradeoff to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Ranged pressure | Keep access to a primary weapon and consider ranged-focused Auspex options such as Marksman’s Mandate. | Damage against marked targets and scan uptime are different benefits; pick according to how you use Auspex. |
| Gun Strikes | Consider Focused Strike for resilience during Gun Strikes and Prime Target for a mark on a dangerous enemy. | This emphasizes Gun Strike play rather than making every ranged or melee option optimal. |
| Close combat | Consider melee-oriented Auspex perks, or equip one of Tactical’s new melee weapons. | Equipping the Power Sword, Power Axe, or One-Handed Thunder Hammer forfeits the primary weapon slot. |
| Squad support | Consider Strongpoint when allies can fight within the Auspex Scan area. | Its listed benefits apply to you and squad members inside the scan area. |
| A second Bolt Rifle | Choose Tactical Reserve if replacing the secondary weapon with a Bolt Rifle fits your loadout. | The perk uses the secondary slot; it is not an extra weapon on top of every other slot. |
As of October 8, 2026, Patch 15.0 is the current baseline covered here. Later patches may change perk wording, weapon balance, or slot rules.
