Space Marine 2’s first post-launch update cycle arrived in two stages: Hotfix 2.1 addressed crashes, story soft locks and CPU behavior on high-end PCs on September 11, 2024; Patch 3.0 followed on September 26 with private Operations lobbies, PC ultrawide support and a Battle Barge Sparring Arena.
When did Space Marine 2’s first updates arrive?
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launched on September 9, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Its first post-launch cycle then unfolded in two distinct releases, rather than one combined update.
| Date | Release | What it did |
|---|---|---|
| September 11, 2024 | Hotfix 2.1 | Focused on stability and high-end-PC CPU behavior. Official Hotfix 2.1 notes. |
| September 26, 2024 | Patch 3.0 | Added new features, including private Operations, PC ultrawide support and the Sparring Arena. Official Patch 3.0 notes. |
What did Hotfix 2.1 fix?
Hotfix 2.1 was the smaller, stability-focused release. Its notes list fixes for rare crashes when starting the game, a crash that could occur during the first cutscene, and other rare crashes. It also addressed rare story-mode bugs that could leave players soft-locked, unable to progress.
On PC, the hotfix optimized CPU behavior on high-end CPUs. The notes describe an optimization, not a quantified reduction in temperatures or a guarantee that overheating will be resolved. They provide no performance percentage.

What did Patch 3.0 add?
Private Operations lobbies
Private Operations mode lets players start an Operation alone with bots or play with one friend without random matchmaking. It is the choice for a more controlled PvE session; the feature is specifically described for Operations, not as a private-lobby option for every mode.
PC ultrawide support
Patch 3.0 added ultrawide support on PC. The feature list does not describe a corresponding ultrawide change for console versions.

Battle Barge Sparring Arena
The Sparring Arena gives squad members a place on the Battle Barge to fight each other while in Operations or Eternal War. Players receive weapons and grenades as in a PvP match, making it a way to spar with squadmates before heading into missions.
Other additions
- A What’s New and Message of the Day panel.
- An option to reset custom colour presets to predefined options.

Did the first patch fix CPU overheating?
Hotfix 2.1 says it optimized CPU behavior on high-end PCs, but the official notes do not specifically claim a universal overheating fix or give before-and-after temperature measurements. Treat it as a targeted CPU optimization, not proof that every high-CPU-use or heat issue was eliminated.
