Warhorse Studios co-founder and COO Martin Klima hopes Grand Theft Auto VI’s price will make it easier for other studios to charge more for triple-A games. Take-Two has announced a US Standard Edition price of $79.99, but that confirms GTA VI’s price—not an industry-wide $80 standard.
What Warhorse’s COO said about GTA 6’s price
In interview coverage published October 2, 2026, Klima said he hopes GTA VI “blazes the trail” for higher prices on other triple-A games. He argued that development costs keep rising, audience growth is nearing its limit and digital sales channels already capture more of each sale. In his view, studios have few remaining ways to increase revenue, and Rockstar and Take-Two have the scale and willingness to test a higher price. Klima also said the GTA series does not appeal to him personally. These are his views on the economics of game development, not evidence of industry consensus. VGC’s report and PC Gamer’s interview coverage detail his remarks.
“The last thing you can do is to increase the unit price. That would help a lot, but everybody’s scared to death about it. Now, hopefully, GTA will blaze the trail, and it will allow us to increase the cost.”
— Martin Klima, as quoted in PC Gamer’s interview coverage

Does this make $80 the new standard for triple-A games?
Not on the evidence available. Klima is expressing hope that other studios will be more comfortable raising prices if GTA VI succeeds at this level; he is not reporting that they have done so. The announced $79.99 price establishes what Take-Two plans to charge for GTA VI’s US Standard Edition, but the sources reviewed do not give a statistic showing how many triple-A games have adopted an $80 base price.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has also said that not all Take-Two games will launch at that price. The publisher’s reported rationale centers on the value it believes a game delivers, rather than a blanket price for every release. PC Gamer’s report on Zelnick’s comments provides that context. Whether other publishers follow remains an open question.
