MultiVersus reportedly used audio from Charlie the Unicorn in a promotional video for a unicorn-themed Reindog skin. The series’ creator, Jason Steele, objected to the audio being used to advertise the game without his permission. Reports say the post was later removed, but they do not establish that Warner Bros. or Player First Games made a legal admission—or that a court found plagiarism or infringement.
What was in the deleted MultiVersus post?
Contemporaneous reports said the official MultiVersus account shared a short promotional video for Unicorndog, a unicorn-themed Reindog cosmetic. The clip reportedly used audio from Steele’s online animated series Charlie the Unicorn, alongside visual and caption references to Charlie and the Candy Kingdom. Destructoid, PC Gamer, and Gamereactor all reported on the post and Steele’s objection.
The controversy concerned the promotional video’s reported use of external audio. It does not, by itself, establish that the in-game Reindog skin copied the animated series or that the game itself used its material.
Why did Jason Steele object?
Steele’s reported objection centered on the commercial context. PC Gamer quoted him distinguishing casual, noncommercial memes from a company using his work to advertise a game:
#1 Best Overall
- This plush is approx. 7.5" x 13" x 13" in size
- High quality and durable materials make for an everlasting soft, fluffy touch
- Inspired by the wonderful characters from Peanuts!
- Add Charlie Brown to your collection and bring home the whole Peanuts gang!
- Free from bean pellets, suitable for all ages
“I do not care if people use my work in non-commercial projects. If you yourself want to use the audio from Charlie the Unicorn for a meme, go right ahead. If you’re a billion dollar company advertising your game, ask permission!”
That describes Steele’s stated position; it is not a general legal rule or a court’s conclusion about the clip. PC Gamer also reported a separate post in which Steele characterized the audio use as being without permission. PC Gamer’s report is the source for both quoted statements.

Why was the tweet deleted?
Reports said the promotional post was removed after Steele’s response. Destructoid said the video was deleted from X, TikTok, and other social platforms; PC Gamer specifically reported that the original MultiVersus X post was taken down. The coverage does not document an official explanation from Warner Bros. or Player First Games for the removal, so it cannot establish who made the decision or why.
Was the MultiVersus skin based on Charlie the Unicorn?
The reported name, unicorn theme, and references in the promotional video invite a comparison, but the available reporting does not establish the creators’ intent behind the skin or post. The clearest reported allegation concerned the promotional clip’s audio and references—not a proven claim that the digital cosmetic itself was copied from Steele’s series.
