There was a visible early complaint about Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s 2025 beta, but the available evidence does not show that the beta as a whole was failing. The clearest reported dispute concerned automatic doors in multiplayer maps; Treyarch addressed the criticism and described adjustments. Later reporting also tied beta feedback to a change in the game’s default matchmaking approach. Those examples show a feedback loop, not a representative verdict on player reception.
What “struggling early” means in this case
The phrase is best treated as a question, not an established aggregate finding. The evidence supports specific criticism and developer responses, but not a claim that most players disliked the beta, that it was universally panned, or that player counts were unusually low. No representative sentiment survey, independently audited reception measure, or attributable beta player-count series is established by the sources cited here.

The beta was a limited 2025 test of multiplayer and Zombies Survival. Treyarch said it was collecting player feedback and in-game data to refine the game. That makes criticism relevant, but the existence of criticism alone cannot measure the whole test’s reception.
What players criticized: automatic doors
GamesRadar reported on October 3, 2025, that players were criticizing automatic doors in multiplayer maps. The report described Treyarch explaining their intended role and outlining adjustments to doors in beta maps. Treyarch said five of the 16 planned launch 6v6 maps would feature automatic doors. GamesRadar’s report on the door criticism and Treyarch’s response documents a specific design dispute, not a measure of how the entire player base felt.

The useful distinction is between a change to beta maps and the studio’s stated launch-map plan: the five-of-16 figure describes planned launch-map prevalence, while the adjustments described in the report concerned beta maps. The reporting does not establish that every complaint was resolved or that all launch-map doors would be changed.
What Treyarch said about feedback
Before the beta, Treyarch associate creative director Miles Leslie told GamesRadar: “We welcome all constructive feedback – ‘constructive’ being the key thing there.” The comment shows the studio publicly invited feedback, but it is not an audience-reaction finding. Which beta feedback led to a reported launch adjustment?
On October 9, 2025, Windows Central reported that open matchmaking would be the default at launch after beta feedback, while skill-based matchmaking would remain at a minimal level by default rather than being removed. This is a concrete reported response tied to feedback, but it does not establish the overall balance of player opinion or prove that every concern was addressed. When the beta ran—and what it included
Treyarch’s guide originally listed the beta period as October 2–8, 2025. The October 8 update extended the test until 9 a.m. PT on October 9, so the listed schedule and actual end time differ. These are historical dates, not information about a current beta or present-day access. Treyarch’s beta guide covered access and platforms; the official beta patch notes recorded test updates.

Zombies Survival ran October 3–7; the notes said the first day was reserved for stability before Zombies was added. The beta guide listed early access for preorders and subscribers to select Xbox Game Pass plans, downloads through PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Battle.net, and Steam, and TPM 2.0 plus Secure Boot as PC requirements. Those details describe the 2025 test only.
What Treyarch’s anti-cheat figures do—and do not—show
Treyarch’s October 8, 2025, update reported that 97.5% of matches were completely clean of cheaters on Day 1 and that 98.8% were cheater-free by Day 5. These are publisher-reported beta metrics; they describe matches by the studio’s measure, not independent assessments of the game’s quality or overall reception. The same update characterized the player reaction as “awesome to see,” which should be understood as Treyarch’s own description, not an independently measured audience result. Do later support issues prove the beta struggled?
No. Activision Support’s page dated September 25, 2026, tracks issues in the released game, including PC login timeouts, Xbox-on-PC errors, and a PC Game Pass access message; it also marks multiple issues as addressed. Those are live-game support records from after release, not evidence of how players received the 2025 beta. Activision’s Black Ops 7 known-issues page is useful for current support status, but should not be backdated into a beta-reception claim.
