Yes—by day-one concurrent Steam players, Dragon Age: The Veilguard narrowly passed Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to become EA’s biggest single-player Steam launch reported at the time. Game Developer reported a first-day peak of 70,414 concurrent players for The Veilguard, compared with 67,855 for Jedi: Survivor. Those are Steam concurrency figures, not sales totals or the number of people who played across all platforms.
What was The Veilguard’s Steam launch peak?
Game Developer reported that Dragon Age: The Veilguard reached 70,414 concurrent Steam players on its first day, October 31, 2024. “Concurrent” means the number of players online in the game at the same time; it does not count everyone who played that day. Game Developer’s launch report describes the figure as a first-day peak.
The game’s Steam peak rose to 89,418 over its opening weekend, recorded on November 3, 2024, according to SteamDB’s historical charts. That later figure is a different measurement window from the first-day comparison; it should not be substituted for the 70,414 day-one figure.
How did it compare with EA’s other single-player Steam launch?
The contemporaneous comparison was Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which Game Developer reported had a peak of 67,855 concurrent Steam players. On the day-one figures, The Veilguard was ahead by 2,559 players. That supports the launch-period description of it as EA’s biggest single-player Steam launch, based on reported concurrent peak—not a claim about revenue, copies sold, or all-platform audience.

The time window matters: comparing The Veilguard’s opening-weekend peak to another game’s first-day peak would not be an apples-to-apples comparison. The reported day-one figures are the relevant comparison here.
What does the BioWare record mean?
Guinness World Records recognizes the 89,418 opening-weekend peak as the most popular Steam launch for a BioWare videogame. Its cited previous BioWare benchmark was Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, which reached 59,817 concurrent Steam players in 2021. This is a BioWare-specific Steam launch record, a narrower category than EA’s single-player Steam launch comparison. Guinness World Records’ entry documents that record.

When and where did The Veilguard launch?
EA released Dragon Age: The Veilguard on October 31, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The PC release was available through Steam, the EA app, and the Epic Games Store, as EA’s launch announcement states. EA describes it as an immersive single-player RPG on its game page.
EA also said the PC version was Steam Deck Verified in its specifications announcement. A Steam Deck is one optional way to play; it is not required to access the game.

Do these peak-player numbers tell us how many copies sold?
No. A concurrent-player peak is a snapshot of simultaneous activity on Steam. It does not reveal how many copies were sold, the total number of people who played over time, revenue, or the number of players on PlayStation and Xbox. The cited sources do not establish a verified launch sales total, so sales should not be inferred from the peak figures.
Steam peaks are useful for comparing platform engagement when the game, platform, and time window match. They cannot by themselves establish commercial success or measure the game’s full audience.
