That establishes launch-day reporting, not how widely unauthorized copies circulated. The game has since launched, so the original prediction can be answered retrospectively.
What happened on launch day?
Steam lists the PC release date as May 16, 2024, and its launch announcement said the game would unlock at 8:00 AM PDT that day. The announcement also noted that players could preload it. Steam’s product listing and its launch details establish the official release timing.

A contemporaneous r/CrackWatch release thread dated May 16, 2024 reported a launch-day release. This is community evidence of reported timing; it does not establish the number of copies distributed, the number of people who obtained them, or overall piracy prevalence.

The PC edition was Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut. PlayStation described it as including the full game, the Iki Island expansion, and Legends co-op multiplayer in its March 6, 2024 announcement. PlayStation identified Steam and the Epic Games Store as purchase options; check those storefronts for current regional availability.

Does the report prove what DRM the game used?
No. The cited official store and launch materials establish the PC release and its timing, but do not specify the launch DRM configuration. The launch-day community report does not by itself show whether the game used no DRM, Steam DRM alone, or another protection. It is therefore not a sound basis for a definitive claim about the game’s protection or a general prediction about how quickly games can be cracked.
Is a PlayStation Network account required?
Steam says a PlayStation Network account is required for online multiplayer and the PlayStation overlay. Nixxes’ Patch 8 release notes specifically state that a PlayStation account is required for Legends mode. These cited account requirements concern online features; they do not say that an account is required to play the single-player campaign.
