Roblox was reported inaccessible in Qatar on August 13, 2025, but contemporaneous coverage did not include a public confirmation from a Qatari government body that it had formally banned the platform. Users reported that the app remained listed in Apple and Android stores but would not connect, while the website could not be reached. The most accurate description is therefore a reported block or access restriction—not a confirmed permanent legal ban.
What happened to Roblox in Qatar?
Reports from Qatar on August 13, 2025 said Roblox stopped working through both its app and website. The Peninsula reported that the app could still be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play, but failed after launch with the message “No Network. Please try when connected to internet.” The web version reportedly showed “This site can’t be reached.” The nonprofit internet-measurement project OONI also recorded access anomalies affecting Roblox from Qatar that day.
Those observations support a significant access disruption. They do not, by themselves, identify the blocking agency, the technical method, or whether the restriction was permanent.
The Peninsula’s report documented the user-facing errors and the absence of a public government confirmation.

Was there an official Qatari ban?
The available contemporaneous reports did not identify a ministry statement, decree, regulator order, court decision, or other public Qatari government notice formally announcing a Roblox ban. Regional coverage later said Qatar had removed access on August 13, while also noting that the government had not publicly explained the move.
That leaves three separate questions:
- Was access disrupted? User reports and OONI measurements indicate that it was.
- Was the disruption network-level? The simultaneous failure of the app and website is consistent with blocking or routing interference, but the precise mechanism was not established.
- Was it an officially confirmed national ban? The cited reporting did not establish that.
“Roblox was reportedly blocked in Qatar” or “Roblox appeared to become inaccessible in Qatar” is more precise than “Qatar officially banned Roblox.” The available evidence also does not establish whether every internet provider was affected or whether the restriction was temporary, partial, or indefinite.
Why did people call for Roblox to be restricted?
Qatar-based reporting said social-media calls for restrictions circulated during the week before August 13. Critics and commentators cited concerns about the platform’s user-generated experiences, social features, and contact between adults and minors. Reports mentioned alleged exposure to inappropriate or sexualized material, exploitation, harmful behavior, alleged virtual assaults, and content viewed as conflicting with religious or cultural values.

These are reported concerns, not a single publicly documented government rationale or proof that every Roblox experience presents the same risk. Roblox is a collection of games and social spaces made by different creators, with safety varying by experience, account settings, age controls, and moderation quality. A technology and AI researcher quoted by Qatar-based media described it as an open social-digital environment rather than merely a conventional game.
Qatar Tribune coverage described the campaign and allegations, while The National placed Qatar’s action within wider regional scrutiny.
What safety controls does Roblox provide?
Roblox’s own regulatory filings describe safeguards that include automated and human review of user-generated material, moderation of text, voice, images, audio, and video, user reporting and blocking, content-maturity labels, age-related controls, and parental settings. Parents can use those settings to limit communication and experiences, manage spending and screen time, and view some account activity. Roblox’s filings also describe age-check systems for chat-enabled regions introduced beginning in January 2026.

The same filings acknowledge important limitations: users may evade safeguards, inappropriate material can appear before removal, age classifications can be wrong, and bad actors may return through alternative accounts. Those disclosures are Roblox’s own risk statements; they do not independently prove every allegation made in Qatar.

On November 30, 2024, Qatar’s International Media Office promoted “Qatar Adventure,” a Qatar-themed metaverse experience on Roblox. That history shows that Qatar-linked institutions had previously used and promoted the platform. It does not disprove the later restriction: policies, safety assessments, regulatory expectations, or technical arrangements can change.

Turkey was reported to have blocked Roblox on August 7, 2025, followed by Qatar’s reported access removal on August 13. Later regional coverage discussed restrictions or regulatory action in Kuwait and other countries. The National also reported that Roblox temporarily disabled some in-experience communication features in Arabic-speaking Middle Eastern countries while working on Arabic moderation and communication safety.
Those developments indicate rising regional scrutiny, but they do not prove that every country used the same legal basis or that Roblox’s communication changes caused Qatar’s restriction. A communication feature restriction is materially different from blocking the entire platform.

Is Roblox still blocked in Qatar?
The cited August–September 2025 reporting does not establish the restriction’s current status, legal permanence, or whether it was later lifted. It also does not identify a formal legal instrument or confirm that all Qatari networks were affected. A reliable present-day answer would require a current Qatar-based access test or a new official notice. The 2025 reports should not be treated as proof that Roblox remains blocked today.
What parents should do
Whether Roblox is reachable or not, parents can address the underlying safety issues without treating a workaround as a solution:
- Use Roblox parental controls to limit communication, content maturity, experiences, spending, and screen time.
- Require approval for purchases and review account activity regularly.
- Use device-level controls such as Apple Screen Time, Google Family Link, or Microsoft Family Safety for app access and overall device use.
- Explain that children should not move conversations to outside messaging services or share personal information.
- Show children how to block and report suspicious users and discuss what inappropriate contact looks like.
- Match settings and supervision to the child’s age; parental controls reduce exposure but cannot guarantee that every harmful interaction or piece of content is prevented.
A VPN should not be presented as a guaranteed or risk-free fix. It changes the apparent network location but does not make Roblox safer. Depending on the circumstances, its use may raise questions about local rules, network policies, Roblox’s terms, privacy, account security, or payment access. The available reporting does not establish Qatar’s current legal treatment of VPN circumvention.
The accurate conclusion
Roblox appeared to become inaccessible in Qatar on August 13, 2025, and independent measurements supported reports of access interference. Child-safety and cultural concerns were widely cited by campaigners and local coverage. What remains unconfirmed is the crucial legal claim: no public Qatari government statement identified in the contemporaneous reporting formally announced a permanent nationwide ban or explained its mechanism. Treat the episode as a reported restriction whose duration and current status require separate verification.
