NVIDIA said the RTX 5070 was out on March 5, 2025, with partner cards available then and its limited Founders Edition planned for later that month.
What was alleged about the RTX 5070 delay?
On February 12, 2025, Tom’s Hardware reported a post by MEGAsizeGPU claiming that RTX 5070 retail availability had shifted from February to early March. The post, as quoted by Tom’s Hardware, said: “The RTX5070 will be delayed. Instead of February, it will be on the shelf in early March.”

The idea that the schedule change was meant to respond to AMD’s Radeon RX 9070-series launch was a theory about NVIDIA’s motive. The cited reporting does not establish that NVIDIA confirmed either the reason or the alleged connection.
When did the RTX 5070 and Radeon RX 9070 launch?
The announcements put the rumor in context, but they do not prove why NVIDIA’s timing changed.

| January 2025 | NVIDIA unveiled the RTX 5070 family and discussed a February launch window, according to Tom’s Hardware’s contemporaneous report. |
| February 12, 2025 | Tom’s Hardware reported MEGAsizeGPU’s allegation that RTX 5070 retail availability had moved to early March, possibly in response to AMD. |
| February 28, 2025 | AMD announced RDNA 4 and the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 as RX 9000-series products. |
| March 5, 2025 | NVIDIA announced that the RTX 5070 was out, with partner cards available. Its limited Founders Edition was scheduled for later in March. |
AMD’s February 28 announcement established the competing product launch context. The timing makes the counter-programming theory plausible as market speculation, but timing alone is not evidence of NVIDIA’s intent.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What RTX 5070 configuration and price were reported?
Tom’s Hardware reported the RTX 5070 reference configuration as NVIDIA’s GB205 GPU with 48 SMs and 6,144 CUDA cores, plus 12GB of GDDR7 memory on a 192-bit interface and 672GB/s of bandwidth. The launch MSRP reported by Tom’s Hardware was $549.
That MSRP is not a guarantee that every partner model was offered at that price or that a card can be found at it today. NVIDIA’s March 5 statement confirmed availability at launch, not current stock or current retail pricing.
Does the launch timing show which card to buy?
No. The launch announcements establish that the RTX 5070 and Radeon RX 9070-series cards were competing products, but they do not provide a head-to-head performance comparison. The timing allegation cannot answer which card is faster or better value.

- Raster performance and ray tracing in the games you play.
- Upscaling and frame-generation support in those games.
- VRAM capacity, power use, and required power connectors.
- Compatibility with creator applications and other software you rely on.
The cited launch information does not provide comparative benchmark results for these factors, so it cannot support a performance verdict between the RTX 5070 and RX 9070-series cards.
