Yes—but the offer was a historical promotion, not a current giveaway. On February 14, 2018, Engadget reported that EA was giving away Dead Space (2008) through Origin’s On the House program. The report said recipients could keep the game, but the promotion’s end date was unclear. Engadget’s 2018 report does not establish that the offer is still available.
What the 2018 free offer covered
The promotion was for Dead Space (2008), the original science-fiction survival horror game—not the later remake. The giveaway ran through EA’s Origin service under its On the House promotion. Engadget’s February 14, 2018 report said people who claimed the game could keep it, while noting that the offer’s duration was not known at the time. Read the report.

That date and uncertainty matter: the report documents what was offered then, not a free claim option available today. It does not specify when the promotion ended.
Is Dead Space (2008) still free on Origin?
The cited 2018 giveaway should not be treated as active. EA’s current service is the EA app: EA says it replaced Origin on PC and Mac and is required to play EA PC games, including games launched through Steam or Epic. EA’s EA app page explains the change.

EA lists the 2008 game separately from the later Dead Space remake. If you are looking for the game covered by the 2018 Origin giveaway, check the product page and edition label before claiming or purchasing; a listing simply titled Dead Space may refer to the remake.
