Spoiler note: this article discusses a reported leak about which characters appear in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Short answer: Wario has not been confirmed in any official Nintendo or Universal announcement we could review. The only source for the claim is a synopsis on the website of UK cinema chain Everyman, which TechRadar reported on February 23, 2026, describing a “Wario and Bowser Jr.’s evil alliance.” That is a report about exhibitor-listing text, not a studio statement. The film has also been out for months: it opened in the United States and many other markets on April 1, 2026, and premiered in Japan on April 24. The story is now about what the leak did and did not establish, not an upcoming spoiler.

Where the Wario claim came from

The claim originated with a cinema listing, not a press release. Everyman’s online synopsis for the film described a “Wario and Bowser Jr.’s evil alliance.” TechRadar picked up the text and presented it as a leak. The report describes what appeared on the exhibitor’s page; it does not establish that the plot point made it into the finished film.

Synopses written for cinema listings are often drafted before a final cut is locked and can draw on early marketing material, scripts, or guesswork. That does not make the text false, but it does mean a listing is weaker evidence than a studio announcement. Readers should treat the Everyman text as a reported claim with a known origin, not as a confirmed casting or plot detail.

What Nintendo and Illumination actually announced

The official record for the film’s cast runs across several announcements. The table below lists the ones that matter for this question and whether Wario appears in each.

Date Announcement Characters or cast named Wario named?
September 12, 2025 Film title announced by Nintendo and Illumination Returning voice cast named; the companies said additional characters and cast would be announced later Not named
November 12, 2025 Rosalina and Bowser Jr. announced with the official trailer Rosalina (Brie Larson); Bowser Jr. (Benny Safdie) Not named
March 10, 2026 Final trailer and full cast announcement Yoshi, Honey Queen, and Wart among others, with their voice cast Not named in the published cast list

The March list is the most complete official cast list reviewed, and it does not include Wario. That is a meaningful absence, but it is not proof that Wario is missing from the film. Studios regularly hold back characters for surprise, and a cast list is not always a complete inventory of every on-screen appearance.

What is and is not established

  • Established: an Everyman synopsis reportedly paired Wario with Bowser Jr. in an “evil alliance,” and TechRadar reported that text on February 23, 2026.
  • Established: Bowser Jr. was officially announced in November 2025, so that half of the synopsis pairing matches an official casting announcement.
  • Not established: that Wario appears in the film, in a scene, or in any capacity. None of the official announcements reviewed name him.
  • Not established: that the synopsis came from an authorised source at Nintendo or Universal. The reporting describes it as exhibitor text.
  • Not established: any on-the-record comment from Nintendo or Universal about the synopsis. The announcement pages reviewed do not address it.

The accurate way to phrase the question is “not confirmed in the official announcements reviewed,” not “Wario is not in the movie.” Anyone who has seen the finished film can check that directly; the published record cannot settle it on its own.

What Chris Pratt said about unrevealed characters

Chris Pratt, speaking to GamesRadar+ in January 2026, said there were characters the public had not yet seen. His comment, as reported in that interview coverage, was: “I’m not allowed to say what they are, but yes, there are some really incredible… Well, I think some of them have been released in the trailer – Rosalina, Bowser Jr. – and then there’s even a couple more that are not in the trailer that people should be excited to see.”

That quote confirms that additional characters existed beyond the trailer. It does not name them, and it does not mention Wario. Pratt’s remark is often cited as support for the leak, but on its own it supports only the general claim that more characters were coming.

How the film performed after release

Nintendo reported global box office of more than $800 million in the film’s first four weeks of release, per its 2026 statements. That figure is gross revenue across markets, not a measure of attendance or profit. For context, Nintendo reported more than $1.3 billion worldwide for The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2025; that comparison concerns the predecessor, not the sequel’s cast.

How to judge a leak like this

Use this checklist when a casting or plot claim circulates before release:

  • Identify the earliest source. Was it a studio, a distributor, a cinema listing, a retailer, or a fan account?
  • Check whether any official announcement names the character, not just a related one.
  • Look for the same detail in a second independent report that cites its own origin.
  • Compare the claim against the official cast list, noting that absence from a list is weaker evidence than a direct announcement.
  • After release, check the film itself and reputable post-release coverage before treating the claim as settled.

Applied here, the Everyman synopsis passes the first test as a real listing but fails the second, since no official announcement names Wario. It is a reported claim with a documented origin and no official confirmation.
