Ubisoft has not announced a Watch Dogs reboot, a new numbered sequel, or even an approved remake. But Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has reportedly called the series an important brand for the company’s future and said the original game could potentially be remade. That leaves room for a reset to make creative sense—but it is an argument for what the series could do, not a plan Ubisoft has confirmed.
What Ubisoft has—and has not—said about Watch Dogs
In a report on Ubisoft’s annual meeting published October 6, 2026, GamesRadar quotes Guillemot describing Watch Dogs as “still a brand that we consider to be an important brand for the future.” The report also quotes him saying the original game might be placed in a creative house “before it’s potentially remade.” The wording is conditional: it points to a possibility, not a greenlit project, release window, or announcement of a franchise-wide reboot. GamesRadar’s report is the source for these remarks.

Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs brand page identifies Watch Dogs: Legion as the series’ third entry and says the first game reached more than 40 million players worldwide. That is Ubisoft’s player figure, not a claim about units sold.
The reporting does not announce Watch Dogs 4. That means its status cannot be established from these sources: there is no basis here to say a sequel is in development, cancelled, or permanently shelved. Ubisoft’s FY2025–26 release schedule covers the first quarter of FY2026–27 and does not list a Watch Dogs release in that quarter; it is not a complete forecast of the company’s future slate. Ubisoft’s release schedule is limited to that period.

Why a reset could suit the series
A “complete reset” could mean several different things: a new protagonist, a different city and social context, a changed tone, or a fresh introduction to the central idea of hacking as a way to understand and influence a connected world. Those are possible creative choices, not reported features of an upcoming game.
The case for starting fresh is that a new entry could explain the series’ premise to newcomers without asking them to catch up on three earlier games. It could also give writers and designers room to decide what Watch Dogs is about now, rather than treating every previous character and plot thread as an obligation. A reset would only help if it gives the hacking premise a compelling role in the story and in play; a new setting alone would not make the series feel renewed.
Rank #2
- HACK THE CITY: Control the city's infrastructure, in real time, with Aiden's cell phone; Trap your enemy in a 30 car pileup by manipulating the traffic lights; Stop a train, and then board it to evade the authorities; Narrowly escape capture by quickly raising a drawbridge; Anything connected to the city's CTOS can become your weapon
- SEAMLESS MULTIPLAYER EXPERIENCE: Discover a new level of interaction, cooperation and confrontation between players thanks to a brand new multiplayer game system that links the single and multiplayer modes into one seamless experience; That means no menus, no loading screens, just instant open world multiplayer action
- DYNAMIC NAVIGATION: Watch Dogs gives you the ability to not only use the city's ctOS to your advantage, but the streets as well; In real world Chicago, cut through one of the buildings or climb to the rooftops to catch your target
- HIGH OCTANE DRIVING: Get behind the wheel of more than 65 vehicles bursting with horsepower to explore the massive city while completing missions; Ubisoft Montreal partnered with Ubisoft Reflections, the acclaimed studio behind the award winning Driver series to develop each vehicle with state of art physics and handling
There is a counterargument, too. A reset risks discarding continuity that returning players value, and it cannot by itself solve creative problems. Ubisoft’s reported comments mention the possibility of remaking the first game, not a decision to abandon the existing series or start it over. The “best for the series” case is therefore about potential, not evidence of Ubisoft’s intent.

How a remake and a new sequel would differ
| Path | What it would do | Entry point for new players | What is established |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remake the original | Revisit the first game’s story rather than extend the series with a new numbered chapter. | Could offer a modernized way into the original story, depending on how a remake is made. | Guillemot’s reported remark describes a remake as a possibility; no approved project or details are confirmed. |
| Make a new numbered sequel | Continue the series with another installment and potentially carry its continuity forward. | Would need to decide how much earlier knowledge a newcomer needs. | The cited reporting contains no announcement of Watch Dogs 4 and does not establish its development or cancellation. |
These paths are not necessarily mutually exclusive in the long term, but there is no confirmed Ubisoft roadmap here. A remake would revisit familiar material; a sequel would move the series forward. Which one would best serve the franchise depends on the game Ubisoft wants to make, not on a choice that has been publicly announced.

What to take from the current evidence
- Ubisoft still considers Watch Dogs important to its future, according to GamesRadar’s account of Guillemot’s remarks.
- A remake of the original is a conditional possibility in that report, not a confirmed production.
- Ubisoft calls Legion the third game and says the original reached more than 40 million players worldwide.
- The available reporting does not settle whether Watch Dogs 4 will happen.
For broader context, Guillemot discussed Ubisoft’s focus on action-adventure open-world games and remakes in a 2024 interview, but the remake discussion there concerned Assassin’s Creed—not a Watch Dogs project. Ubisoft’s interview should not be read as confirmation of a Watch Dogs plan.
