We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie is a refreshed version of the 2005 sequel, not a new mainline entry. It keeps the series’ playful roll-and-collect loop, updates the presentation and interface, and adds five challenges about the young King of All Cosmos. It is a good fit if you enjoy unusual, cheerful arcade games; it is less suited to anyone looking for a radically redesigned game or a large new campaign.

What kind of game is it?

You control the Prince, rolling a sticky ball—the katamari—around compact stages to collect objects. As it grows, it can pick up larger things, changing what routes and targets are available. The appeal is the simple, tactile loop and the way ordinary objects become part of an increasingly absurd pile.

This is the remaster of We Love Katamari, the second game in the series, originally released in 2005. It preserves the original premise rather than replacing it with a new style of play. Steam’s game description presents the rolling-and-collecting gameplay alongside redesigned graphics and a revamped interface.

What is new in REROLL+ Royal Reverie?

Five Royal Reverie challenges

The main addition is Royal Reverie: five challenges in which you play as the King of All Cosmos during his boyhood. Bandai Namco describes this as new story content, while Steam’s listing identifies the five new challenges. This is a focused bonus, not a replacement campaign.

Updated visuals and interface

The remaster redesigns the graphics and revamps the interface, with Bandai Namco also describing improved visual fidelity and quality-of-life enhancements. These changes make the classic presentation easier to engage with, but they do not alter the basic structure of rolling through stages and gathering objects.

#1 Best Overall
We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie - Nintendo Switch
  • 5 NEW STAGES STARRING A YOUNG KING OF ALL COSMOS - Enjoy all-new stages and collectibles inspired by the first interlude movie of the main game that shows the King as a child
  • TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR ADVENTURE IN SELFIE MODE - Take photos and decorate them; Use the photo rally feature to take pictures and collect stickers of Namco characters; Filling your photo rally sheet lets you unlock new frames and filters
  • PLAY AS LONG AS YOU WANT WITH NO LIMITATIONS - This remaster comes with an Eternal Mode for those that want to play with no time limit; Keep it rolling… for as long as you want
  • QUALITY OF LIFE IMPROVEMENTS - Favorite your favorite musical tracks, better locate target objects that help find barricades and goal objects, easily find stages to play with the “Find a Fan” shortcut, and enjoy on a wider pool of gaming platforms

Selfie mode and additional play options

Selfie mode lets the Prince and cousins take pictures while rolling through stages. Bandai Namco Europe’s official game page also lists Eternal Mode, which removes the time restraint. These are useful additions for players who want to explore or enjoy the characters and stages at a different pace.

What do reviews say?

Nintendo Life’s Switch review, published June 15, 2023, praises the crisp HD graphics, remixed levels and quality-of-life features, while noting that the colorful presentation, writing and soundtrack remain central to the experience. Its overall framing is of a careful refresh of a game that had already held up well. The review’s display and performance observations apply to the Switch version; they are not evidence of performance parity across platforms.

Steam’s user-review snapshot was 95% positive from 1,663 reviews when accessed October 8, 2026. Its recent snapshot was 90% positive from 22 reviews in the previous 30 days, also accessed October 8, 2026. These are changing Steam user-review statistics, not critic scores, and the recent sample is much smaller.

Is it worth playing or buying?

It is easiest to recommend if the original game’s oddball premise appeals to you, or if you want a colorful, low-pressure game built around immediate, satisfying progress. The refreshed presentation and extra modes give returning players reasons to revisit it, while Royal Reverie adds a small, distinct set of challenges. If you already own and enjoy the original, weigh those additions against how much you want to replay its existing stages; the available review evidence supports a refresh, not a wholesale reinvention.

  • Good fit: players who like playful arcade concepts, collecting, and a soundtrack- and character-led presentation.
  • Less compelling: players expecting a new mainline game, a major mechanical overhaul, or a long expansion campaign.
  • Returning players: the clearest extras are the visual and interface updates, Royal Reverie, selfie mode and Eternal Mode.
