No single officially documented fix covers WEBFISHING crashes on PC. The most useful first step is to work out when the crash happens: before the main menu, during loading, or after you join a lobby. From there, run the low-risk checks in order: restart the PC, confirm you are launching the Steam version you intend to play, and test a clean launch if you use mods. If the game crashes during loading, a carefully backed-up save-file test is the next diagnostic. Contact official support if none of these change the result.
Identify where the crash happens
Player reports describe different failure points, and the stage you see determines which check is relevant.
- Before the menu: the game closes right as the “lamedeveloper” title appears. One Steam Community post describes this pattern and asks for ideas.
- During loading: the game runs for a while and then crashes while loading. The save-file test later in this article applies here.
- After entering a lobby: the game runs normally until you join a multiplayer lobby, then fails. Note whether it happens every time or only sometimes.
What the sources establish
Steam lists WEBFISHING as a casual multiplayer game developed and published by lamedeveloper. Its listed minimum requirements are:
- A 64-bit processor and operating system
- Windows 7
- A 2 GHz processor
- 8 GB RAM
- GTX 580 graphics
- 4 GB available storage
The Steam store listing also notes that the Steam client supports Windows 10 and later from January 1, 2024. Store requirements describe what the game needs to run; they do not diagnose a specific crash.

Two other points are documented, though each is narrow. A Steam Community user with a startup crash reported that restarting the PC resolved it. That is one player’s outcome, not evidence that a restart fixes every crash. Separately, the Calico mod documentation says a crash may result from a conflict with another mod and recommends testing to isolate the conflict. That guidance is specific to that mod, so it supports a clean-launch test rather than proving that mods cause every crash.
Troubleshooting order
- Restart the PC. This is low-risk and costs nothing. Relaunch the game afterward and note whether the crash point changed.
- Confirm the Steam version. Launch WEBFISHING from your Steam library and make sure it is the Steam copy you intend to play.
- Test a clean launch if you use mods. Follow the steps in the next section before changing anything else.
- For a loading crash, protect your saves first. Back up the save folder, then run the file test in the section after that.
- If the problem remains, contact official support. Use the Steam technical-support page for WEBFISHING, described below.
Test a clean launch for modded installs
This applies only if you have mods or a mod loader installed. The goal is to find out whether the crash depends on them.

- Temporarily disable the mods or the mod loader using the method your mod setup supports.
- Launch the game through Steam and note whether the crash still happens at the same stage.
- If the crash stops, re-enable mods in small groups and relaunch after each group to identify the conflicting one.
If the crash happens with mods disabled too, mods are probably not the cause, and you should continue with the other steps.
Crashes during loading: testing save files
A community troubleshooting reply suggests a diagnostic test for loading crashes. It is user-sourced advice, not an official support procedure, so treat it as a test rather than a guaranteed repair. The save data is kept in this folder:

- Back up first. Copy the entire
webfishing_2_newverfolder to a safe location. Do not skip this step. - Move the general data file. Move
webfishing_general_datainto thelogsfolder, launch the game, and see whether loading completes. - Restore it if the test fails. If the crash continues, move
webfishing_general_databack to its original location. - Test the active save slot. If needed, move the active
webfishing_save_slot_xfile (replacexwith your slot number) into thelogsfolder and test again. - Change one file at a time. Restore each file before testing the next, so you know which change, if any, affected the result.
Do not begin by deleting save files. The point of the test is to move files aside and check the result, and the backup from step one is your recovery route.
What the evidence does not support
- Antivirus, drivers, GPUs, or peripherals as the cause. The sources do not establish any of these as a cause of WEBFISHING crashes. One community post mentions an antivirus workaround, but it is not established as a reliable or officially recommended step.
- A crash rate. The sources do not provide a published statistic on how often WEBFISHING crashes, so no such figure should be quoted.
Contacting the developer
The developer has asked players to report save problems directly. In the Patch 1.07 announcement, the developer wrote: “PLEASE let me know if theres any major save bugs/crashes at my twitter DMs (@westthewerst) or my email ([email protected])”.

Older patch notes may list contact details that have since changed, so check Steam’s technical-support page for WEBFISHING for the current official contact route. When you report a crash, include the stage where it happens, whether you use mods, and whether the clean-launch or save-file test changed the result.
