If Windows reports that webres.dll is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, identify the application and file path first, then repair that application rather than downloading a loose DLL.
The name is reused by unrelated programs. One documented family is Corel’s WEB.Designer Resources, part of the WebRes Dynamic Link Library. A WebRes.dll copy was also associated with WordPerfect Office 11, while other databases associate the same filename with IObit products and other software. The filename alone does not identify the correct owner.

Identify the correct webres.dll
Use the error dialog and the file path to determine which program is failing.
| Detail | What the available records show |
|---|---|
| File name | webres.dll |
| Internal description | WEB.Designer Resources |
| Reported publisher | Corel Corporation for the Corel variant |
| Product family | WebRes Dynamic Link Library |
| Category | Application file |
| Reported metadata | One record lists 32-bit, version 0.0.0.0, and approximately 0.85 MB |
| Important qualification | Other public records report different sizes and architectures, so these details do not define every webres.dll |
Check the application named in the error
Read the complete error message. It may identify an executable, game, editor, installer, or older office application. That program is a stronger ownership clue than the DLL name.

If the dialog does not identify the program:
- Press Windows key + E to open File Explorer.
- Search for
webres.dllon the drive where the affected application is installed. - Right-click each result and select Open file location.
- Note the surrounding folder and nearby executable files.
- Do not copy, rename, or replace the file yet.
A copy inside an application folder is normally more relevant than a copy in Downloads, a temporary directory, or an unrelated program folder. Do not assume that a file in System32 is legitimate simply because Windows has a folder with that name.
Check Properties, publisher, and signature
For a copy that still exists:
- Right-click
webres.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Record File description, Product name, Company, and File version.
- Open Digital Signatures, if the tab is present.
- Select a signature and click Details.
- Check whether Windows reports that the digital signature is valid.
- Open the General tab and record the full location.
A Corel-looking description in an unexpected IObit, game-booster, or temporary folder does not prove Corel ownership. If no copy remains, use the application’s installation directory and the program named by the error to determine what should be repaired.
Why webres.dll suddenly stopped working
The usual causes are local to the application:
- An update or reinstall was interrupted.
- Antivirus software quarantined the file.
- Disk cleanup or manual deletion removed it.
- The application installation became damaged.
- An older Windows, Office, Corel, or WordPerfect installation was migrated.
- A different product supplied an incompatible file with the same name.
- A secondary dependency required by the DLL is missing.
- A recent driver or system change damaged a broader Windows component.
The error text may say “not found,” “missing or corrupted,” “a required component is missing,” or “not designed to run on Windows.” These messages do not identify one universal Corel file, and they do not prove that Windows itself is damaged.
Fix 1: Repair the owning application
This is the safest first repair for a Corel or WordPerfect-related error.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsRepair from Windows 11 Settings
- Open Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the application named in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the affected program again.
The Repair button is not available for every desktop application. If the program starts afterward, test the feature that previously produced the error. If the error remains, return to the same page and use Reset only if you understand that it may remove application data or settings.
Repair a traditional desktop installation
Older Corel and WordPerfect products commonly use Control Panel rather than the modern Settings repair page.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Find the affected Corel, WordPerfect, or other owning application.
- Right-click it, or select it and choose Change.
- Choose Repair or Modify.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
- Test the application again.
A repair operation restores missing or damaged components from the original installation source. It is preferable to replacing webres.dll manually because it restores the matching files and configuration for that specific application.
If the repair asks for installation media or cannot complete, use the vendor’s official installer or account portal for the exact product. Do not use a DLL archive as a substitute for the application installer.
Fix 2: Reinstall the exact application
Reinstall when Repair is unavailable, fails, or reports that the installation source is missing.
- Back up documents and application-specific settings if the program stores them outside your normal Documents folder.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Locate the program named in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Complete the uninstall process.
- Restart Windows.
- Obtain the same product from its official vendor installer, account portal, or original installation media.
- Install the application using an administrator account.
- Start the program and test the operation that failed.
For a traditional program, you can also use Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features, select the application, and choose Uninstall.
If the application is a game, use the launcher’s Verify, Repair, or equivalent file-checking feature before removing the entire game. There is no evidence that the Corel webres.dll is a general game runtime.
A successful reinstall should place the required file in the application’s own directory and allow the program to start without the missing-file message. If the same error returns immediately, verify that you reinstalled the program named by the error rather than another product that happens to use the same basename.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can quarantine a legitimate application file, although a missing file can also indicate an unsafe or modified installation. Do not restore a quarantined file solely because the application says it is missing.
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving the affected application or
webres.dll. - Expand an entry to see its path and detection details.
Only consider restoring a file after confirming all of the following:
- The path belongs to the application you intended to install.
- The installer came from the software vendor or trusted original media.
- The publisher and signature are consistent with that application.
- A current Windows Security scan does not identify the file as a threat.
Reinstalling the application is usually the cleaner fix. It obtains the file again from a trusted installer instead of restoring an item that may have been altered.
If you restore a file, update Windows Security and run a full scan afterward. If the file is detected again, leave it quarantined and investigate the installer or application source.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Fix 4: Check whether another dependency is actually missing
Sometimes the first named DLL is only the file Windows attempted to load. The real missing dependency may appear later in the message or in an application error entry.
Look carefully for names such as:
MSVCP*.dllVCRUNTIME*.dllapi-ms-win-crt-*.dll
Only install a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable when the error identifies a Microsoft runtime or the application’s official documentation requires it. Installing Visual C++ does not recreate webres.dll.
Microsoft provides separate x86 and x64 packages. The package architecture must match the application, not merely the edition of Windows:
- A 32-bit application normally needs the x86 runtime, even on 64-bit Windows.
- A 64-bit application needs the x64 runtime.
- Some systems require both because they run both 32-bit and 64-bit programs.
After installing the matching runtime, restart Windows and test the original application. If the error still names webres.dll, repair or reinstall the owning application instead of repeatedly reinstalling Visual C++.

Fix 5: Match the DLL to the application architecture
Do not infer the architecture of webres.dll from whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit. Public records for this filename conflict: some list a 32-bit file, while another record reports x64 information. That disagreement means there is no universal architecture or size that applies to every copy.
The application and its DLL must be compatible. A 32-bit program on 64-bit Windows normally loads its application-local files and 32-bit dependencies from its own installation directory.
To check the application:
- Open the application’s installation folder.
- Right-click the main executable.
- Select Properties.
- Open Details and record the product information.
- If the vendor provides an architecture label in the installer or account portal, use that information.
- Repair or reinstall that exact build.
Do not replace a 32-bit application file with an x64 file from another product, or the reverse. A mismatch can produce entry-point errors, “not designed to run on Windows” messages, or a failure that appears unrelated to the original missing-file message.

Fix 6: Repair broader Windows component corruption
System repair is appropriate when several programs are failing, Windows features are damaged, or the problem began after a broader system corruption event. It is not a guaranteed way to restore an application-local Corel DLL.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
First install pending Windows updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then run DISM followed by System File Checker.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and test the affected program.
DISM repairs the Windows component store that SFC uses. SFC repairs protected Windows components; it should not be treated as a guaranteed repair for a third-party application’s private webres.dll.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without checking what changed can make troubleshooting harder. Outbyte PC Repair can show what its free scan finds, while repair features are handled by the full version; reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix when that program owns webres.dll.
On Windows 11, you can also try the built-in repair reinstall:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now.
- Follow the prompts.
This reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings. Use it for broader Windows problems, not as the first response to one missing application DLL.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix 7: Review recent driver or system changes
Drivers are not the normal owner of webres.dll, but a recent driver or system change can coincide with application failures, particularly when the error appears while launching a game or graphics-heavy program.
Check Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the recent change, such as Display adapters.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Check the driver provider, date, and version.
- If the problem began immediately after an update, use Roll Back Driver if available.
- Otherwise select Update Driver and follow the search or vendor-installer process.
- Restart Windows and test the affected application.
Do not remove multiple drivers while investigating a DLL error. If a game launcher has its own repair function, use that before changing unrelated hardware drivers.
Manually hunting versions and guessing which of dozens of drivers is stale can take longer than the application repair itself. Outbyte Driver Updater can show its free scan results, while driver installation is handled by the full version; it is not required, and it does not replace reinstalling the program that owns webres.dll.
Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is reasonable when the error began after a recent installation, update, or driver change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the failure.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the result.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore changes system files, registry settings, and installed programs. It does not normally affect personal files, but review the affected-program list before confirming.
What not to do
Do not download a loose DLL
Random DLL download pages may supply:
- The wrong product’s file.
- The wrong architecture.
- An incompatible version.
- A modified or unsigned file.
- A file that does not match the application’s dependencies.
A same-named DLL from an IObit product, Mango TV, Smart Game Booster, or another application cannot repair a Corel or WordPerfect installation. It may create new entry-point or compatibility errors.
Use the original application’s official installer, repair function, or trusted installation media instead.
Do not copy webres.dll to System32 or SysWOW64
webres.dll is not normally a Windows system component. Copying it to C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 can create search-order conflicts and leaves the owning application damaged.
Recommended Free Tools
The correct location is normally the application’s installation directory. Repair the owner rather than modifying Windows folders.
Do not register it with regsvr32
Do not run:
regsvr32 webres.dll
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. An application-resource or runtime DLL does not automatically require registration, and registration will not restore a missing file or repair a damaged application.
Do not enable random Windows Features
Windows Features are not a general repository for third-party application DLLs. Enabling .NET Framework or legacy components will not normally recreate webres.dll. Use Windows Features only when the affected program’s official requirements specifically name a Windows component.
If the error remains after reinstalling
Collect the information below before making further changes:
- The complete error text.
- The executable that fails.
- The full path where Windows expects
webres.dll. - The file’s publisher and digital-signature status.
- The application architecture.
- Any
MSVCP,VCRUNTIME, orapi-ms-win-crtname in the same error. - The time the problem began.
- Recent updates, antivirus detections, cleanups, or migrations.
- The related entry in Event Viewer → Windows Logs → Application.
To open Event Viewer:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
eventvwr.msc. - Press Enter.
- Open Windows Logs → Application.
- Find an error at the time the program failed.
- Record the faulting application and module names.
If the path points to a temporary folder, an unexpected product directory, or an unsigned replacement, scan the file and installer with Windows Security. Do not restore a quarantined copy merely because the program reports that it is missing.
FAQ
Is webres.dll a Windows file?
No. The available evidence points to application-local copies, including a Corel-related WebRes component and copies associated with unrelated products. It should not normally be installed in System32 or SysWOW64.
Does webres.dll belong to Corel?
It can. WEB.Designer Resources and WebRes Dynamic Link Library are associated with a Corel variant, but the basename is reused by other products. Confirm the folder, executable, publisher, and signature before deciding that Corel is the owner.
Is webres.dll 32-bit?
One supplied metadata record lists a 32-bit file, but other public records conflict and report x64 information. Do not replace the file based on architecture claims alone. Match the DLL to the application that loads it.
Will installing Visual C++ fix it?
Only when the error also identifies a missing Visual C++ runtime such as MSVCP*.dll, VCRUNTIME*.dll, or api-ms-win-crt-*.dll. Visual C++ will not recreate webres.dll.
Should I run SFC for webres.dll?
Run DISM and SFC when multiple Windows components or programs are malfunctioning. SFC is not a guaranteed repair for an application-local DLL. Repair or reinstall the owning application first.
Can I use System Restore?
Yes, if the failure followed a recent installation, update, or driver change and a suitable restore point exists. Review affected programs before confirming the restore.
What is the safest fix?
Identify the application and path, then run that application’s official Repair or Change operation. If repair fails, uninstall and reinstall the exact product from its official installer or original media.
