During Seasonal activities, a final blow with a Special-ammo weapon had a chance to create a Favor for you and your allies, but only while the Exemplar of Grace upgrade at the War Table was active. Collecting a Favor briefly improved mobility. Bungie has since vaulted the season, so Favors of Grace are best understood as a legacy seasonal mechanic rather than something you can count on earning today.
How a Favor of Grace was generated
The Favor was a pickup created during combat, not an item you bought, equipped, or crafted. Bungie’s Exemplar of Grace War Table entry describes the condition in one sentence: in Seasonal activities, final blows with Special ammo have a chance to create a Favor for you and your allies that improves mobility for a brief period of time.

Three conditions had to line up:
- The activity had to be a Season of Defiance Seasonal activity. The Favor belonged to that season’s systems, not to Destiny 2 activities in general.
- The Exemplar of Grace upgrade had to be active on the War Table. Without it, a Special-ammo final blow did not produce a Favor.
- The final blow had to use Special ammo. Damage from other weapon types did not count.
Even when all three were met, the creation was chance-based. A Special-ammo kill was never guaranteed to produce a Favor, so a short stretch of kills with no pickup is not evidence that something is broken.
What a Favor of Grace did
The benefit was a brief mobility improvement. Bungie’s description does not state a numerical mobility value or an exact duration, and this article does not supply one. Any figure you see quoted elsewhere should be checked against an official source before you rely on it.

Grace, Justice, and Zeal compared
Season of Defiance used three Favor types. Each had its own trigger and benefit, which is why the seasonal challenges asked for them separately.

Seasonal objectives that asked for Favors
- Grace Under Fire (Triumph): “Acquire Favors of Grace in a Season of Defiance activity.”
- Favored Warrior (seasonal challenge): collect all three favor types.
Both objectives depended on the same chance-based pickups, so they could take noticeably longer than their wording suggests.
Why Special-ammo kills may not have produced a Favor
If a Favor did not appear during a season that supported them, check the conditions in the order below:

- Confirm the activity was a Seasonal activity from Season of Defiance, not a standard activity.
- Confirm the Exemplar of Grace upgrade was unlocked and active at the War Table.
- Confirm the killing blow was made with a Special-ammo weapon, not a Primary or Heavy weapon.
- Accept that the creation is chance-based and allow for a run of kills without a drop.
Historical farming advice
A 2023 Pro Game Guides walkthrough recommended Special-ammo weapons, naming Witherhoard, Arbalest, Forbearance, and Pardon Our Dust. These were period suggestions from a guide written during the season, not tested rankings, and they do not reflect the current weapon landscape.
Can you still get Favors of Grace?
Bungie’s Destiny Content Vault lists Season of Defiance among vaulted seasonal narratives and Defiant Battlegrounds among vaulted activities. Its Year 7 notice dated June 4, 2024 also states that bounties, missions, quests, engrams, seasonal heirlooms, and artifacts from Season of Defiance, along with several other seasons, were removed from inventories.
Those statements make the mechanic a legacy feature. They do not establish whether any specific Season of Defiance activity can still be reached through a current legacy route, so if you are planning around the Favor, confirm access on Bungie’s current Content Vault and Help pages before you start.

Season of Defiance dates
Season of Defiance ran from February 28 to May 23, 2023, with weekly resets. Bungie’s Season 20 update is dated February 28, 2023, which places the season in 2023.

Bungie has not published a proc rate for Favor creation, a mobility amount, or a duration for the buff, and this article does not estimate any of them. The phrase “brief period” is the only timing detail in the official description.

Because the Favor system is no longer a current feature, there are no present-day weapon rankings or farming routes to recommend.
The Grace mechanic is also distinct from the Favors of Justice and Zeal in terms of trigger and benefit, as the comparison above shows.
