In RuneScape: Dragonwilds, a Saga is a complete story arc with its own beginning, middle and end. It is delivered through connected quests, regions, enemies, bosses, rewards and progression systems rather than as one isolated update.
The first arc, the Kuldra Saga, reached its conclusion when version 1.0 launched in September 2026 and players entered the Scorned Wilderness raid to defeat Kuldra. That ending closes Kuldra’s story, not the wider story of Ashenfall. Jagex has announced Luminance for December 2026, the Blood Crystal Saga for 2027 and The Plundered Gods Saga for 2028.

What a Saga means in Dragonwilds
Jagex uses “Saga” to describe a major narrative journey that unfolds over multiple updates. Unlike a single quest line or seasonal event, a Saga is intended to have a complete dramatic shape: an opening that establishes a threat, a middle that expands the world and raises the stakes, and a finale that resolves the central conflict.

That structure also makes a Saga the framework for progression. New story beats arrive alongside explorable territory, combat encounters, bosses, resources, equipment and skill content. Your character’s growing capabilities are therefore part of the narrative journey: each region gives you reasons to explore further while also supplying the materials and challenges needed for later content.

Jagex’s original vision described Kuldra as one complete story arc and positioned later Sagas as new chapters in Ashenfall’s larger history. The company has also said that the unexplained place of Ashenfall in the wider world will be explored over a multi-year journey.
Is the Kuldra Saga over?
Yes. Kuldra’s story concluded with the Scorned Wilderness raid at the version 1.0 launch on September 15, 2026. In a July 2026 developer update, Mod Dutch described the milestone this way: “Shipping into 1.0 is a major milestone for us because it concludes the Kuldra Saga with the players going into the Scorned Wilderness raid and defeating her.”
The September launch announcement confirmed that Scorned Wilderness brought the opening core narrative to its conclusion. This is the important distinction:

| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Is Kuldra’s personal story finished? | Yes. The Scorned Wilderness raid and Kuldra’s defeat conclude the Kuldra Saga. |
| Is the story of Ashenfall finished? | No. Jagex describes Ashenfall as the subject of a continuing, multi-year story. |
| Does version 1.0 mean no more story content? | No. Version 1.0 marks the end of the opening Saga while future Sagas are planned. |
Players should therefore read “the Saga is over” as a statement about one arc, not as a claim that the game has reached its final narrative chapter.
How Kuldra’s Saga tied story to progression
Kuldra’s arc began with Early Access in April 2025. As development continued, each major region expanded both the map and the playable structure of the story. The completed sequence recorded in the release material is:

- Grab your capes and party hats, because we’re going to Gielinor!
- Inspired by the record-breaking online universe that’s captured the imagination of millions worldwide, RuneScape Kingdoms: Shadow of Elvarg is the official cooperative board game for 1-5 players.
- Fellhollow: the starting portion of the world and the foundation for the opening narrative.
- Dowdun Reach: a later region that extended exploration, quests and combat encounters.
- Umbral Sands: another major area that continued the story while adding further resources, equipment and challenges.
- Scorned Wilderness: the final Kuldra-era region and location of the raid that concludes the arc.
Earlier roadmap material described Dowdun Reach, Umbral Sands and Scorned Wilderness as stages in the Saga’s expansion. The later release announcement is the authoritative source for what actually shipped: all four regions form the completed opening sequence.
Progression was not presented as a separate numbered campaign detached from the plot. Instead, the story and the survival-RPG systems advance together. Quests direct you toward new parts of Ashenfall; enemies and bosses test the equipment and skills you have developed; and new materials enable stronger or more specialized gear for the next stage.
Skills, gear and materials
Roadmap updates connected new regional content with new materials, gear and skill opportunities. In January 2026, Jagex said the skill level cap would rise to 99 and that existing skills would receive retroactive content in future updates. That announcement describes the intended direction of progression, not a promise that every skill’s cap changed simultaneously.
There is also no official evidence that every player must follow one fixed equipment order. The regions provide a broad progression path, but the reviewed announcements do not establish a single mandatory gear sequence or a universal checklist of skills required for each zone.
The raid as the narrative payoff
The Scorned Wilderness raid is more than an endgame activity added after the story. It is the point at which the Kuldra arc’s central conflict is resolved. Entering the raid and defeating Kuldra gives the Saga the beginning-middle-end structure Jagex used to define it: the threat is introduced, the world and stakes expand through successive regions, and the final encounter supplies the conclusion.
Released content versus announced content
Dates matter because the roadmap spans several years. The following distinction separates content confirmed as released from plans announced for the future.

“Announced” means these are Jagex’s plans as stated on October 5, 2026. It does not make a future feature available today or guarantee that a particular item will arrive on a particular date.
What is Luminance?
Luminance is the next named update after the Kuldra conclusion. Jagex announced it for December 2026 and described it as a prelude to the Blood Crystal Saga rather than as a full Saga of its own.
The announced Luminance features include:
- elves entering the game’s setting;
- elven-themed character customization;
- elven-themed building customization; and
- the Prayer skill.
These details identify the update’s role and headline additions, but the announcement does not establish a complete quest walkthrough, a final release day or the exact way each feature will interact with existing builds.
What is the Blood Crystal Saga?
The Blood Crystal Saga is the next full story arc announced by Jagex. It is scheduled to start in 2027 with Song of Rebellion.

Announced features
- Moss Giants, Kebbits and Implings as new creatures or encounters;
- the Hunter skill;
- new areas and quests;
- new gear; and
- Prifddinas-inspired decorations for player houses.
Jagex also announced a broader 2027 update cadence. Quarterly updates are expected to include new skills such as Hunter and Slayer, while monthly updates are planned to add side quests, weapons, decorations and quality-of-life improvements. “Quarterly” and “monthly” describe the intended cadence, not a guarantee that every named feature will launch on a specific day.
The Blood Crystal Saga should be understood as a new arc built on the same model as Kuldra: story developments are expected to arrive with new places to explore and new progression options. The available announcement does not yet provide a complete region-by-region route or a definitive order for every quest and item.
What is planned after Blood Crystal?
Jagex has announced The Plundered Gods Saga for 2028. It is described as the continuation after the Blood Crystal Saga, making it the next named long-term chapter in the Ashenfall story.
No detailed quest list, region list, boss roster or exact release date was provided in the announcement reviewed. Treat its 2028 start as a roadmap commitment announced in October 2026, not as content that is already playable.

Players asking how to progress should separate the practical loop from an imagined fixed campaign order. The released structure supports this general pattern:
Best Value
- Featuring Original Artwork from OSRS Community Artists
- Machine Washable
- Smooth, Easy-Glide surface
- Printed at 300 Dots Per Inch
- Follow the available quests. Quests provide the narrative context for each new area and point you toward the next set of encounters.
- Explore the current region. Search for materials, crafting resources and points of interest instead of rushing directly from one objective to the next.
- Improve equipment and skills. Use regional resources to expand your combat and survival options before taking on tougher enemies or bosses.
- Advance when the next area becomes viable. New regions extend the story and raise the challenge, but the official announcements do not define one mandatory equipment score or skill combination.
- Expect a culmination. In the Kuldra arc, the progression path ultimately led to the Scorned Wilderness raid and the final confrontation with Kuldra.
This explains why a Saga feels larger than a conventional quest chain: the narrative objective, the map, the resource economy and the character build all move forward together.
Will Dragonwilds continue to receive systems and mods?
Yes, according to the announced 2027 plans. In addition to story content, Jagex said quarterly updates would bring new skills and monthly updates would add side quests, weapons, decorations and quality-of-life improvements.
Jagex also announced official modding through a partnership with CurseForge in 2027. The plan includes creation tools plus an in-game mod browser and installer, with support intended across platforms including consoles. Because this is a future announcement, the final toolset, launch date and supported mod types were not established at the time of the announcement.
