Legendary makes Destiny 2 campaign missions harder, with stronger combatants, and Bungie recommends it for experienced players with a broad arsenal. The additional reward is tied to completing all Legendary missions: Bungie says that grants extra rewards per class, but its guides do not specify the items or quantities.
What Legendary difficulty gives you
A more demanding campaign
Bungie describes the Legendary campaign option—labeled “Become Legend” in its guides—as featuring harder missions and stronger combatants than the classic “Be Brave” option. Its stated appeal is the tougher encounter experience, not a documented bonus to every activity in Destiny 2.
Additional rewards for full completion
Bungie’s Renegades campaign guide and Edge of Fate campaign guide both state that completing all Legendary missions provides additional rewards per class. The guides do not identify the reward items or give a quantity, so the supported benefit is the additional per-class reward—not a particular Exotic, armor piece, or fixed reward count.
Who should choose Legendary?
Bungie recommends Legendary for experienced players with a broad arsenal. That makes it the better fit if you want tougher campaign fights and feel prepared to handle stronger combatants. Choose the classic “Be Brave” option if you would rather play the campaign without that added challenge; the cited guides do not claim that Legendary is a more time-efficient way to earn rewards.

How to think about difficulty now
Difficulty systems have changed over time. In its July 15, 2025 Update 9.0.0.1, Bungie said returning high-difficulty content, including Legendary campaign content, was converted to fixed difficulty aligned with corresponding Portal tiers. The update discusses broader Power and difficulty changes, but does not establish a specific Power difference for Legendary campaign missions. Avoid relying on a universal campaign Power-delta rule.
Replaying a completed campaign on Legendary
Replay access and navigation can vary by expansion and destination. In a Bungie Help forum response dated October 1, 2026, a player-support reply pointed to campaign missions on the relevant destination maps and gave examples for The Witch Queen, Lightfall, The Final Shape, Edge of Fate, and Renegades. Treat this as practical forum guidance rather than a guarantee that every expansion uses an identical interface. See the Bungie Help forum reply for the examples.

A separate Bungie Help response dated December 4, 2025 described a past issue where the final Renegades mission could fail to stay set to Legendary and advised manually selecting the mission difficulty when replaying it.
