You can replay with a developed build, face stronger enemies for greater rune rewards, and take another shot at missed quests, rewards, or endings. The trade-off is that world and quest progress resets, so Journey 2 is optional replay value, not a universally better way to play.
What Journey 2 adds
Replay with your established character
Your levels, stats, weapons, and much of your equipment carry over, so you can revisit early areas with a build shaped by your first journey. GameSpot also lists armor, sorceries and incantations, talismans, most consumables, gestures, boss Remembrances, cookbooks, flask upgrades, and map progress among retained progress. A harder replay with more runes
Enemies in Journey 2 have more health and deal more damage, while defeating them awards more runes. That can make the replay more demanding while giving you increased rewards for fights. There is no authoritative, independently verified exact rune multiplier established here, so treat precise percentage claims cautiously.
Another opportunity for missed content
A new journey gives you another chance to follow questlines, earn rewards you missed, and pursue a different ending. It does not change the story itself; the replay gives you another route through its choices and overlapping quests.

What resets—and what you keep
The practical distinction is character progression versus world progression. You retain much of your character’s strength and ordinary gear, but the world returns to an earlier state and you must progress through it again.

These are broad guide summaries, not a guarantee for every individual item or unlock. If a particular item, shop unlock, or quest state matters to you, check a current item-by-item carryover guide before beginning Journey 2.

When to begin Journey 2
You do not have to reset the world immediately after finishing the game. After defeating the final boss and seeing the credits, accept the prompt to begin Journey 2 or decline and continue exploring. You can also start later by resting at the Table of Lost Grace in Roundtable Hold and selecting Begin Journey 2.
Use the time before the reset according to what you still want from the current journey:

- Prepare your character: collect or upgrade gear you want to take into the replay.
- Start sooner: choose Journey 2 if you are ready for tougher encounters and want to pursue missed rewards or a different ending.
Is New Game Plus worth it?
Journey 2 is a good fit if you want to keep using your developed character while replaying the Lands Between, test yourself against tougher enemies, or revisit choices and rewards. Waiting is better if you still have unfinished quests, optional bosses, or equipment preparation you care about, because those world and quest states do not simply carry through. The choice is yours: the post-credits prompt can be declined, and Journey 2 remains available at Roundtable Hold.
