Recommended Free Tools
There is no single best parkour game, because the genre splits into different experiences. If you want first-person free-running as the main attraction, start with Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. If you want parkour inside an open-world zombie survival game, pick Dying Light. If you want fast, punishing first-person traversal with lethal combat, pick Ghostrunner. The sections below explain what each game actually offers, how to check platforms and editions, and what has changed since launch.
These picks rest on each publisher’s documented mechanics and official listings. No independent testing has ranked these games against one another.
Three strong picks, three different kinds of parkour
The easiest way to choose is to decide how central movement should be. In Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, moving is the game. In Dying Light, parkour is one tool inside a survival horror world. In Ghostrunner, traversal and combat are fused into a single fast loop.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst: the purest free-running option
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is the clearest fit for readers who want first-person free-running as the central attraction. Steam lists it as a DICE-developed, Electronic Arts-published single-player game released June 7, 2016. The store description presents Faith as a free runner in the city of Glass and highlights the first-person movement system.

The traversal toolkit covers building momentum, wire-lines, balancing, hanging and climbing, wall-running, and moving around corners or gaps. According to the store description, Faith regains focus by free-running, which helps her survive combat. Combat is secondary here; route-finding and keeping speed are the core skills.
Online status: The online features for this title have been discontinued. EA and Steam both state, “ONLINE FEATURES FOR THIS TITLE HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED.” Do not buy it expecting online functionality to work.
Dying Light: parkour inside an open-world survival game
Dying Light suits readers who want parkour as part of a larger survival experience. Techland describes it as open-world zombie survival horror with “unique parkour gameplay,” and the official page promises “unprecedented freedom of movement as you seamlessly traverse a vast open environment full of challenges and surprises.”
Because movement doubles as escape and exploration, the game rewards planning routes across rooftops and streets while managing threats. If you mainly want clean, uninterrupted traversal, the survival layer will feel like a larger share of the experience than it does in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.

Ghostrunner: fast traversal with lethal combat
Ghostrunner is a hardcore first-person slasher set in a cyberpunk megastructure, where you climb Dharma Tower. PlayStation’s key features describe katana combat, superhuman reflexes, and a rule that makes fights brutal: “One-hit one-kill mechanics make combat fast and intense.”
This is a strong pick for players who want movement paired with fast, punishing action rather than a quiet free-running game. Expect combat to be integrated into the traversal rhythm, not separated from it. How to choose: a decision guide
- Choose Mirror’s Edge Catalyst if you want to be a free runner first, care most about route-finding and momentum, and accept that online features are gone.
- Choose Dying Light if you want an open world with zombies, long playtime options, and parkour as a survival tool.
- Choose Ghostrunner if you want fast first-person movement and are comfortable with one-hit deaths in combat.
Check your platform and edition before buying
Platform support and edition details change, so confirm them on the publisher or storefront page you are buying from before checkout.
- Dying Light physical edition: Techland confirms a physical Definitive Edition on selected platforms, including Nintendo Switch. Availability can differ by region, so check the exact listing.
- Dying Light editions: Essentials and Definitive 10th Anniversary are both identified in Techland’s official FAQ, and both include the Retouched Update (2025).
- Digital versus physical: Compare the platform and edition on each store page, since a physical release on one platform does not guarantee the same format elsewhere.
- Prices and stock: These are volatile and were not verified for this guide.
What is and is not established
No named, dated comparative study ranks these games against each other, and this guide does not claim one. The publisher-provided Dying Light playtime figures are estimates, not measured results. The official Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and Ghostrunner pages do not provide comparable playtime data, so no direct length comparison is possible from official sources.
