Those measures answer different questions, so naming ten mounts without a defined metric and dated dataset would create a misleading ranking.
Why there is no reliable current top 10
Blizzard’s collectibles pages identify mounts and describe acquisition routes, but the reviewed pages do not publish a universal ranking by ownership or drop rate. A 2026 third-party statistics guide likewise says Blizzard has not published official mount ownership or drop-rate figures; figures it presents are community-derived or estimates. No official all-mount statistic or current official top-ten ranking is established by the sources reviewed.
A ranked list needs a traceable snapshot: a named dataset, its unit of measurement, sample size and region if available, refresh date, and a consistent rule for which mounts count. Without those details, the order cannot be checked or fairly compared.
What “rarest” can mean
Lowest estimated drop chance
This describes the estimated probability of a mount dropping on an eligible attempt. It does not measure how many players own it. The reviewed sources do not provide a complete official set of mount drop probabilities, so an unsourced percentage should not be treated as a verified rate.

Lowest ownership share in a tracked sample
This measures how many profiles, characters, or accounts in a particular dataset have a mount. It is a statistic about that sample—not necessarily the entire WoW player base. The MountsRarity addon listing points to Data for Azeroth as a source for rarity data, but any resulting comparison should be described as a ranking within that dataset and at its stated refresh date.
Limited or unavailable access
A mount may be difficult to obtain because it was a time-limited reward or is no longer obtainable. That is a different kind of rarity from a repeatable boss drop with a low estimated chance. A useful comparison should state availability separately rather than folding access restrictions into an unexplained score.

How to find the rarest mount in your collection
- Choose an ownership-based comparison. Use a collection-statistics source such as Data for Azeroth, which the MountsRarity addon listing identifies as its rarity data source. Treat its results as sample statistics.
- Check what the result measures. Confirm whether the display ranks ownership share, estimated drop chance, or another measure. Do not convert one into another.
- Read the scope and date. Note the dataset’s unit, region, sample size if published, and refresh date. If those details are absent, describe the result as a community comparison rather than a universal ranking.
- Separate rarity from availability. Check whether the mount is currently obtainable and how it is acquired before treating its low ownership share as evidence of a low drop chance.
In a World of Warcraft Forums discussion on August 22, 2025, a participant reported seeing Silent Glider at 2% in Data for Azeroth. That is a participant-reported display for a particular sample and date—not a Blizzard statistic, a drop rate, or a current universal ownership figure.
Why acquisition routes complicate comparisons
Mounts can come from very different activities, and their route alone does not establish their present-day rarity. Blizzard’s Cataclysm collectibles guide, for example, lists the Armored Razzashi Raptor from Bloodlord Mandokir in Zul’Gurub and the Brown Riding Camel through a vendor and exalted Ramkahen reputation. Blizzard’s 2019 Rise of Azshara guide also describes mounts associated with rare creatures and reputation routes. These examples show why a comparison should record acquisition method and eligibility, but neither guide is a current rarity ranking.

What a defensible top-ten list should include
For each entry, a trustworthy ranking should provide:
- the mount’s ownership share or estimated drop chance, clearly labeled as that measure;
- the dataset or estimate’s source, unit, region and refresh date, with sample size where published;
- whether the mount is currently obtainable, limited-time, or otherwise restricted;
- its acquisition route and relevant eligibility or lockout details; and
- a consistent inclusion rule covering unobtainable, class- or faction-specific, and newly released mounts.
Blizzard acquisition guides can help identify a route, but older guides may not establish current availability. Verify current in-game information before relying on them for farming instructions.

How to read community rankings
When a list says “rarest in WoW,” check whether it really means “lowest ownership in this dataset as of this date” or “lowest estimated drop chance according to this source.” Community discussion illustrates the distinction: players may compare personal collection rarity and cite ownership percentages, but those reports do not establish a universal ranking. Rankings can also shift as datasets add profiles, refresh, or reflect changed availability.
