No Blizzard character is identified as saying “It is a good day to die.” Blizzard lists the exact phrase as a Warcraft II cheat code, not spoken dialogue. Entering it makes your units “ultra-powerful.”
What does the phrase refer to in Blizzard games?
Blizzard’s Warcraft II cheats reference lists “It is a good day to die” among the game’s cheat codes. Its stated effect is: “Makes your units ultra-powerful.” The reference does not attribute the phrase to a character or identify a speaker.
Why might it sound like a character quote?
The line is easy to remember as dialogue, but its documented use is a code players enter during gameplay. A player’s recollection on Blizzard’s World of Warcraft forum also places it among Warcraft II cheats used when beginning a mission; that post is a player recollection, not an official dialogue transcript. Warcraft Wiki’s cheat listing corroborates that classification.
What happens when you use the cheat?
Blizzard says the code makes your units ultra-powerful. Its reference also notes that cheats affect all players equally in multiplayer, so the effect is not limited to one player in that context.
