Call of Duty’s Limited Matchmaking is a restricted matchmaking state—not confirmation that Activision has found an account guilty of cheating. Activision says affected accounts may be placed with others in a similar state, party members can be pulled into those lobbies, and players there may not earn progression. The state may end, return, or be followed by further penalties, including a temporary or permanent ban.
What does “Limited Matchmaking” mean in Call of Duty?
Activision’s Security and Enforcement Policy describes Limited Matchmaking as a restricted matchmaking state. Accounts in that state may be matched with other accounts in a similar state rather than the standard player pool.
Team RICOCHET has stressed that the status is not proof of confirmed cheating: “As a reminder, being placed in Limited Matchmaking doesn’t signal that an account is a confirmed cheater. It means an alarm was raised that requires examination.” That wording describes a review trigger, not its eventual outcome.
Why are players concerned about the consequences?
The consequences described by Activision extend beyond the account that entered the state. Its policy says party members may also experience limited lobbies and states: “Players and their party members may not earn progression in limited matchmaking lobbies.” A party member’s presence can therefore affect the group’s matchmaking experience without establishing that every member independently received the status.

Activision says an account may later return to normal matchmaking, be placed in Limited Matchmaking again, or receive a temporary or permanent ban or other penalties. The official wording does not promise a fixed review period or specify which outcome will apply to a particular account.
Can my party get put in limited lobbies?
Yes. Activision’s policy says party members may experience those lobbies. Team RICOCHET reported in 2025 that more than 75% of the Limited Matchmaking pool consisted of users brought into the system through parties. It also said a non-limited account returns to standard matchmaking after leaving a party affected by Limited Matchmaking. The party effect does not by itself mean each person’s account was separately flagged.

Does Limited Matchmaking mean I was confirmed cheating?
No. Team RICOCHET says the status means an alarm was raised and requires examination; it does not signal a confirmed-cheater finding. That distinction does not establish that every affected player is innocent, either. The status alone does not tell a player what conclusion Activision will reach.
In a 2025 update, Activision said less than 0.15% of the Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone player population was in Limited Matchmaking. That is a reported figure for those named games in 2025, not a current 2026 prevalence estimate. Separately, Activision reported that in-game mitigations disrupted more than 55,000 cheaters in August 2025; that number is not a count of Limited Matchmaking accounts.

Is Limited Matchmaking the same as a PC attestation restriction?
No. Call of Duty has also described a separate-pool consequence for players who fail Microsoft Azure Attestation checks. In a June 2026 Team RICOCHET update, the company said affected players would be placed in a separate pool and have access limited to selected playlists until they complete the attestation process. That is a PC security-verification requirement, not the suspicious-activity alarm described for Limited Matchmaking.
| Situation | Stated mechanism | Stated access consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Limited Matchmaking | A suspicious-activity alarm requiring examination, according to Team RICOCHET. | May place the account and party members in lobbies with accounts in a similar state; progression may not be earned. |
| Failed Microsoft Azure Attestation | Failure to complete the stated PC attestation checks. | Separate pool and access limited to selected playlists until attestation is completed. |
Neither situation, on the stated facts alone, proves that an account was confirmed cheating.

Can I appeal Limited Matchmaking?
No. Activision’s account enforcement and ban-appeal page says Limited Matchmaking states and temporary bans are not eligible for appeal. It says permanent bans may be appealed; Activision may overturn one only if it determines the infraction resulted from an account hack.
Did Activision just add new Limited Matchmaking terms?
The available official policy establishes the consequences described above, but does not establish exactly what wording was newly added compared with an earlier version. Without a verifiable before-and-after comparison of Activision’s policy text, it would be inaccurate to describe a particular clause as newly introduced.
