If a weapon disappears or stops working in Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies after an update, the available reports do not confirm a single cause or a fix for this exact problem. First work out whether the weapon is missing from your loadout, not equipped when the match starts, or visible but unusable in-game. On PC, Activision’s general guidance is to check the game files through your launcher and let shader preloading finish before entering a mode; neither step is confirmed as a remedy for this specific bug.
Identify where the weapon problem happens
“Weapon not loading” can mean several different things. A player discussion includes a report that a weapon was not showing and the player could not fire or melee, but that anecdote does not establish the cause or show that every report has the same underlying issue (player discussion).

- Loadout menu: The weapon is absent when you select or edit your class.
- Match start: The loadout looks correct, but you spawn with a different weapon or none of the expected equipment.
- During a match: The weapon is equipped but invisible, cannot fire, or does not behave as expected.
Before troubleshooting, note the weapon, Zombies map and mode, platform, launcher if you play on PC, and the update or build installed when the problem began. Also record whether it affects one weapon or multiple weapons.
PC checks to try
Activision’s Vanguard PC troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the game installation through the launcher. These are general file-integrity checks, not a confirmed fix for a missing Zombies weapon (Activision PC troubleshooting).

Let shader preloading finish
Activision advises PC players to allow shader preloading to complete before starting a mode. Its guidance says navigating away from the main menu stops preloading and can lead to performance issues. It does not say shader preloading causes Zombies weapons to disappear, so treat this as a general PC check rather than a diagnosis (Activision PC troubleshooting).
What the past patch notes do—and do not—show
Vanguard Zombies has had historical bugs involving weapon state and loadouts. Treyarch’s November 11, 2021 patch notes recorded a fix for players receiving the default pistol after being downed instead of the Pack-a-Punched version they owned (Treyarch’s November 11, 2021 notes). Sledgehammer Games’ Season One notes also document past Zombies loadout and weapon fixes (Sledgehammer Games’ Season One notes).

Those fixes show that weapon-state and loadout defects have occurred before; they do not establish that an old fix addresses a problem that appeared after a later update. The available sources do not confirm a current cause or a specific fix for the symptom described here.

Activision says a useful report explains “what happened, where and when it happened, and any steps you can provide to help us reproduce what you experienced” (Activision feedback and bug reporting). Include these details in your report:
