Wizards of the Coast’s 2025 Unearthed Arcana: Eberron Updates playtest revises the Artificer for the 2024 Player’s Handbook rules, adds a Cartographer subclass, updates Artificer-compatible spell and magic-item options, and proposes dragonmark feats open to characters of any species. The packet is a draft, not official game content, and D&D Beyond now lists its feedback period as ended.
What changed in the Eberron playtest?
The packet is a set of player-facing rules options, not simply a lore update. Wizards describes it as part of a series of playtests for material designed for upcoming books, and specifies that it uses the 2024 Player’s Handbook rules. The official document is Unearthed Arcana 2025: Eberron Updates.
- Artificer: a revised version of the class, updated since its previous Unearthed Arcana appearance.
- Cartographer: a new Artificer subclass.
- Artificer options: updated versions of a new spell and new magic items compatible with the class.
- Dragonmarks: proposed feats offering a new way for characters to join Eberron’s dragonmarked houses.
How do the dragonmark feats change character options?
The proposal lets characters of any species take and improve dragonmarks through feats. That is the packet’s clearest setting-specific character change: access to a dragonmark is not restricted to a particular species in these proposed rules.
The packet says backgrounds representing a character’s connection to a dragonmarked house would appear in a future book if the feats became official. Those backgrounds are not included in this playtest, and the packet does not guarantee that they will be published.

Is Eberron Updates official D&D content?
No. The packet labels its options experimental and in draft form, and states, “They aren’t officially part of the game.” Wizards says feedback could help determine whether the designs are adopted and that any adopted material could be refined before appearing in a D&D book. D&D Beyond’s Unearthed Arcana Playtest Materials page currently says the Eberron Updates feedback period has ended.
The packet invited players to use the material in an existing campaign or run special playtest sessions, with feedback submitted through the D&D Beyond survey. D&D Beyond says playtest documents and surveys can be accessed from the Sources menu or Unearthed Arcana compendium after claiming them, but playtest material is not integrated into its digital toolset. The official packet and index do not provide a survey response count, outcome percentage, or other named statistical result.
Where did the playtest material go?
A D&D Beyond forum reply dated February 4, 2026, reports that the Artificer and other Eberron Updates material were released in Eberron: Forge of the Artificer. This is a community report, rather than a publication detail verified here against a first-party product listing; consult an official listing for the book’s edition, contents, format, and current availability before relying on it. The report appears in the D&D Beyond forum discussion about sourcebooks for Unearthed Arcana playtests.

The same forum exchange describes Eberron: Rising from the Last War as a 2014-rules-era book. Since that detail comes from a community discussion, it is not enough on its own to establish a full comparison of the two books.
