Minecraft Bedrock is available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. Minecraft’s current store page also lists Nintendo Switch 2 for Bedrock cross-play. If you want to play online on a console, the console’s online subscription may be required.

Is Bedrock the version to choose for console cross-play?
Yes. Bedrock is the edition used for cross-play between the supported console families and other Bedrock platforms. Java Edition is separate; Minecraft describes its cross-play group as Windows, Mac, and Linux. The Minecraft platform overview outlines the platform distinction.
Minecraft’s older Java-or-Bedrock explainer, published October 25, 2021, also names Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Nintendo Switch as Bedrock platforms. The newer store listing is the better reference for Switch 2.

Do you need a subscription to play online?
Console online play may require the platform’s network subscription. Minecraft’s account guidance names PlayStation Plus and Nintendo Switch Online, as well as Xbox Live Gold; Xbox subscription names and requirements can change, so check the current Xbox network terms for your account and region.
