Goats in Stardew Valley are barn livestock that produce milk every two days once they are mature and fed. You can sell that milk raw, or put it in a Cheese Press to make Goat Cheese. Large Goat Milk, which a goat can produce when it has enough friendship and happiness, is the more valuable version. The Stardew Valley Wiki gives the base values used below: 225g for regular Goat Milk and 345g for Large Goat Milk. Those figures are before quality and profession bonuses, and they are not profit.
Getting and raising goats
A goat is a Big Barn animal. The Stardew Valley Wiki’s Goat page lists its purchase price at Marnie’s Ranch as 4,000g, and you need a Big Barn to house it.
Growth and daily care
A goat takes five nights to mature when it is fed every day. Once mature and fed, it produces one Goat Milk every two days. Production is not daily, so a goat you skip feeding will not keep building milk.
Collecting milk
There are two ways to collect milk:
- Milk Pail (hand milking): Milk the goat by hand. Each hand milking adds five friendship points with that goat.
- Auto-Grabber: Goats in the barn can be milked automatically by an Auto-Grabber, so you do not need to visit each animal.
Hand milking is the only documented way to raise a goat’s friendship through milking, so it is worth doing by hand for animals you want to develop toward Large Goat Milk.

Breeding and selling goats
Goats can become pregnant and give birth. Reproduction is a low chance that rises with the number of animals in the same barn, and a birth notice appears before the day begins. Goats can also be sold, with a price that depends on the animal’s hearts of friendship and a maximum of 5,200g, according to the Goat page. Expect the top price only from a goat with high friendship; the wiki does not give a heart threshold for that maximum.
Regular Goat Milk versus Large Goat Milk
Large Goat Milk comes from goats with sufficient friendship and happiness. The wiki does not publish a precise friendship threshold, so treat the requirement as a general condition rather than a fixed number of hearts. The table below summarizes the differences the wiki documents.

The Large Goat Milk values come from the Large Goat Milk page, and the regular milk values from the Goat Milk page. Quality and profession bonuses change the actual sale price, so the ranges in the table are for orientation only.
Turning milk into Goat Cheese
Either milk size can be processed into Goat Cheese. The Stardew Valley Wiki’s Cheese Press page covers the machine itself.

Making Goat Cheese in a Cheese Press
- Place a Goat Milk or Large Goat Milk into an empty Cheese Press.
- Wait 200 in-game minutes for the cheese to finish.
- Collect the Goat Cheese. Regular Goat Milk gives regular-quality cheese, while Large Goat Milk always gives gold-quality cheese.
The base values of the finished cheese are 400g for regular-quality Goat Cheese and 600g for gold-quality Goat Cheese, per the wiki’s Artisan Goods page.
Aging Goat Cheese in a Cask
Goat Cheese can be aged in a Cask, and aging increases its quality over time. The Cask page describes the process. Aging takes additional time and cask space, so it competes with other uses of that equipment.

Is Goat Cheese more profitable than selling milk?
Processing can raise gross sale value, but the answer depends on input quality, output quality, profession bonuses, and what your Cheese Press and Cask time could otherwise produce. The wiki’s Animal Products Profitability page compares raw products with processed cheese across these factors.

The gain column is simple subtraction of base values. It is gross value, not profit. It does not subtract the cost of the goat, the Big Barn, the Cheese Press, the Cask, or the time spent waiting. Profession bonuses apply to both raw and processed sales, so the gap can widen or narrow depending on which profession you have. Quality is a separate variable, and the wiki’s figures do not account for every combination.

Bundles
Large Goat Milk is one of the options for the Pantry Animal Bundle. Goat milk of either size can count toward the ten-milk requirement in the remixed Home Cook’s Bundle. Bundle contents depend on the version and bundle configuration in your save, so check your Community Center before planning milk production around a specific bundle.
Checking values for your game version
The Stardew Valley Wiki’s goat, milk, and cheese pages do not consistently state the game version they describe. The prices, friendship mechanics, and production times above are the figures the wiki publishes, and they can change between updates. Check the Goat page and the Animals page against your own game version before making a long-term farm plan.
