Nintendo Stores sell the current Switch-family consoles, physical and digital games, controllers, Joy-Con, docks, chargers, cases, amiibo, refurbished systems, and other hardware accessories. They also carry licensed clothing, plush, toys, LEGO sets, home and office goods, bags, mugs, journals, and collaboration products. Nintendo NEW YORK and Nintendo SAN FRANCISCO add demonstrations, events, character-themed displays, and merchandise that may be exclusive to Nintendo Stores.
What you can buy at a Nintendo Store
Nintendo’s retail offer has two parts: products for playing Nintendo games and products for showing your fandom. The hardware side is centered on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch systems, with the controllers, charging equipment, storage and protection accessories needed to use them. The entertainment side includes games in physical and digital formats. A separate merchandise business covers clothing, gifts, collectibles, toys, LEGO sets, home items and licensed collaborations.

Consoles and core Nintendo hardware
Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch systems
The stores’ principal hardware category is the Switch family. Nintendo organizes its catalog around Nintendo Switch 2 hardware and Nintendo Switch systems, rather than selling a broad range of unrelated electronics. A shopper looking for a current Nintendo console should therefore start with the Switch 2 and Switch listings, then confirm the included accessories, regional version and availability.
#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Both physical locations promote systems alongside current games and merchandise. The online Nintendo Store provides searchable product listings, which is useful when you need to check a model or accessory before visiting a shop. Hardware availability can change quickly, so a product appearing in the catalog does not guarantee that a particular location has it on the shelf.
Refurbished systems
Nintendo’s hardware catalog also includes refurbished systems. These are a separate choice from a new console and should be evaluated from the live listing for the exact model, included components and condition terms. If you are replacing an older system, compare the refurbished offer with the current Switch-family hardware rather than assuming every refurbished unit has the same specifications.
Games: physical and digital formats
Physical games
Nintendo describes its store as selling video games in physical and digital formats. Physical releases are the cartridge-based products you can take home, give as gifts or display in a collection. Physical stores promote current releases near consoles and merchandise, making them a practical stop when you want a game and hardware in one visit.
Before buying a physical game, verify that it is for the correct system. A title’s listing should identify its supported platform, and a game intended for one member of the Switch family may not provide the same experience on another. Release timing and store stock are separate issues: a game can be officially released while a particular location is temporarily sold out.
Digital games
Digital games are purchased through Nintendo’s online shopping system rather than handed over as a boxed product. The Nintendo Store app lets customers browse games and purchase through the Nintendo Store. Digital buying is useful when you want immediate access, do not need a cartridge and have sufficient storage and internet access on the console.
Digital and physical purchases differ in ownership mechanics, storage needs and resale potential. A physical copy can be lent or collected; a digital purchase is tied to the account and platform rules shown at checkout. Read the product page for the download requirements and supported system before confirming payment.
Controllers, Joy-Con and system accessories
Current-system accessories form a substantial part of Nintendo’s retail catalog. The practical categories are control, charging, connection, protection and figure-based features.

Controllers and Joy-Con
Joy-Con and other controllers let you replace a damaged unit, add players for local multiplayer or create a different control setup. Match the controller to the console model shown in the listing. Color and bundle combinations are often more volatile than the underlying controller category, so check the exact item rather than relying on a product photo from an older release.
Docks, cables and chargers
Docks, cables and chargers support television play, portable charging and replacement of a missing component. A dock or power accessory should be selected for the system it is designed to serve; connectors and power requirements are not interchangeable merely because two products look similar. If you are replacing one part of an existing setup, identify the console model and the failed component first.
Cases and travel protection
Cases protect a console and game cards during travel. Nintendo’s accessory range includes system cases and related protection products, with designs that may reflect a particular character or series. Confirm the fit for your exact system before buying, especially when choosing between Switch-family models.

amiibo and related accessories
amiibo figures are listed with Nintendo’s current-system accessories. They combine collectible appeal with supported in-game features where a particular title recognizes them. Compatibility is game-specific, so check the game’s instructions or product information rather than assuming every amiibo works with every release.

Nintendo’s retail FAQ says the New York and San Francisco stores offer accessories for current systems. It also directs customers to order other accessories and replacement parts online at nintendo.com/store. This distinction matters when you need a small replacement component that is unlikely to be displayed in a physical shop.
Apparel, gifts and licensed merchandise
Nintendo Stores are also character-merchandise destinations. The merchandise catalog is organized into apparel and accessories, home and office, plush, toys and games, LEGO and collaborations. These categories let a shopper buy something tied to a favorite series without purchasing a console or video game.
Apparel and wearable accessories
Apparel can include series-themed shirts and other clothing, while accessories cover items such as bags, pouches, hair accessories and similar gift products. Nintendo examples include Zelda Korok shirts, totes, pouches and hair ties, as well as Super Mario hair accessories. Sizes, colors and seasonal designs are inventory-sensitive, so treat the live listing as the authority.
Home and office goods
Home and office products turn Nintendo characters into everyday objects. Examples shown in Nintendo’s catalog include mugs, mirrors, storage boxes, pen stands, journals and other desk or household items. Yoshi-themed kitchenware is another example of merchandise aimed at fans who want a practical item rather than a display collectible.
Plush and character gifts
Plush products are designed as soft character toys and gifts. They are often bought for children, collectors or fans decorating a room. The character and size selection changes with new releases and seasonal demand, so a specific plush should be checked for current availability.
Toys and board games
Nintendo’s toys catalog includes toys, board games and other play products. This category is useful when the recipient already owns a console or when the gift needs to work away from a screen. Look at the age guidance and player information on the individual product listing for a suitable choice.
LEGO sets
The catalog includes LEGO Super Mario, LEGO Animal Crossing and LEGO Donkey Kong products. Some examples are identified as Nintendo Store exclusives. These sets appeal both to builders and to Nintendo fans, but the exact set assortment and release schedule depend on current listings.
Licensed collaborations
Nintendo also lists collaborations such as Crocs x Super Mario. Collaboration stock can be narrower and more time-limited than the standard merchandise range. Check the current product page for sizing, release timing and whether the item is available in a store or only through a particular sales channel.
Nintendo Store exclusives and location-specific products
Nintendo Stores exclusives
Nintendo maintains a dedicated “Nintendo Stores exclusives” category. Nintendo says products in this category can only be found in Nintendo Stores. That label describes the intended sales channel, not a guarantee that every item will remain available: release dates, quantities and inventory can change. Verify the live listing before traveling for a particular exclusive.

Nintendo NEW YORK
Nintendo NEW YORK is located at 10 Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan. It combines retail merchandise with demonstrations, interactive areas and events. The store highlights collections connected with series such as Donkey Kong, Mario Kart and The Legend of Zelda. Those displays make it different from simply ordering a product online, especially for visitors looking for a themed experience or a location-associated item.
Nintendo SAN FRANCISCO
Nintendo SAN FRANCISCO is located at 331 Powell Street. Its promoted range includes apparel, accessories and home goods inspired by Super Mario, Animal Crossing, Zelda and other Nintendo series. Like the New York location, it functions as an experiential store with demonstrations and events as well as a place to buy merchandise.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Physical stores versus the online Nintendo Store
The two shopping channels do not work identically. Nintendo’s retail FAQ states: “Currently, we do not offer online or phone orders.” The physical stores are in-person destinations, while the online Nintendo Store lets customers shop select Nintendo products.

How to plan a store visit
- Identify the exact product. Record the console model, game platform, accessory type, character design or merchandise size you want.
- Check the live Nintendo listing. Confirm that the item is current, note any stated release date and distinguish an online listing from a product advertised for a physical location.
- Confirm the location. Choose Nintendo NEW YORK or Nintendo SAN FRANCISCO and verify current hours and event information before leaving.
- Check event requirements. Reservations are generally not required for ordinary shopping, but special events can have their own reservation rules.
- Ask about substitutions. If a color or character design is unavailable, decide whether a different style or a standard accessory meets your needs before purchasing.
Region and compatibility caveats for U.S. stores
Nintendo states that systems, software and accessories sold at its U.S. stores are intended for use in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Latin America. Shoppers outside those markets should consult their local Nintendo distributor and check compatibility before buying. Regional differences can affect system support, software availability, power requirements, warranties and account services.
This warning applies even when a product appears physically identical to one sold elsewhere. If you are purchasing a console or accessory as an international gift, confirm the recipient’s region first. For games, check the product’s supported system and any account or download requirements; for hardware, verify power and service compatibility.
Choosing among Nintendo Store products
Use the following decision points to narrow a large catalog without treating every item as interchangeable.
- Buying a first console: compare the current Switch-family systems, then check what is included in the specific package.
- Adding local multiplayer: look at compatible Joy-Con or other controllers and confirm the game supports the desired number of players.
- Replacing a broken component: identify the console model and the exact failed part; use the online replacement-part route when the physical store does not carry it.
- Choosing a game: decide between a physical copy for collecting or sharing and a digital copy for immediate, account-based access.
- Buying a gift: consider apparel, plush, toys, board games, LEGO, home goods or office items when the recipient already has the hardware they need.
- Seeking rarity: start with the Nintendo Stores exclusives category and verify release timing and current inventory before visiting.
- Shopping internationally: confirm that the U.S. product is intended for the recipient’s region and that local support is available.
Inventory, prices and release dates
Catalog categories are relatively stable, but individual listings are not. Prices, colors, sizes, bundles, store stock, release dates, event reservations and regional availability can change. A product page is therefore a snapshot of what Nintendo is offering at that moment, not a promise that every store will carry it indefinitely.
Recommended Free Tools
For a high-demand console, exclusive item or newly released game, check the listing shortly before travel and again on the day of the visit. For merchandise, keep a backup choice in mind because a single character design or apparel size may sell out while the broader category remains in stock.
Bottom line
Nintendo Stores sell far more than consoles: the core range is Switch-family hardware, games and current-system accessories, while the wider catalog includes apparel, plush, toys, LEGO, home and office goods, bags, mugs and licensed collaborations. Nintendo NEW YORK and Nintendo SAN FRANCISCO add demonstrations, events and themed collections, and a dedicated exclusives category identifies products intended to be found only in Nintendo Stores. Use the online catalog to check product details and replacement parts, then confirm regional compatibility and live inventory before relying on a particular item being available.
