In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, a question mark means the outbreak’s Pokémon are not yet identified on the map. A star marks an outbreak with a follow-up wave after the first is cleared, while a berry marker signals a chance to obtain Aguav Berries. You can reveal unknown outbreak species by visiting them or offering Mai’s Munchlax five Aguav Berries.
What each Massive Mass Outbreak symbol means
| Map symbol | Meaning | How to use the clue |
|---|---|---|
| Question mark | The Pokémon at that outbreak have not yet been identified on the map. | Visit the location to identify the outbreak, or use Mai’s Munchlax to reveal outbreak identities. |
| Star | The outbreak has a special follow-up wave after you clear its first wave. | Plan to stay after the first wave. The next wave is commonly an evolved form or an Alpha variant, but that outcome is not guaranteed. |
| Berry | The outbreak may yield Aguav Berries when you catch or defeat its Pokémon. | Collect berries to use with Munchlax to uncover other outbreak identities. |
| Ordinary outbreak icon | An identified outbreak without an additional star or berry marker. | Use the displayed species to decide whether to visit; the lack of a star does not establish that a second wave is impossible. |
The symbol explanations are described in game guides, rather than spelled out on the official update page. Game8’s symbol guide and Nintendo Wire’s Massive Mass Outbreak guide explain the map cues.

How to reveal question-mark outbreaks
There are two practical ways to learn what is at an unknown outbreak:
- Visit the location. Travel to the map marker and identify the Pokémon there directly.
- Offer Mai’s Munchlax five Aguav Berries. Munchlax can reveal outbreak Pokémon on the map, making it easier to choose where to go without scouting each location first.
Aguav Berries from berry-marked outbreaks can help replenish the supply used for Munchlax’s reveal function.

What Massive Mass Outbreaks are—and when they appear
Massive Mass Outbreaks are part of the free Daybreak update for Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The official Pokémon Daybreak update announcement associates the feature with rainstorms across Hisui and says Daybreak content becomes available after you view the game’s end credits. The outbreak session is temporary while the storm persists; the official announcement does not give a precise duration.
