What Does “Sus” Mean in Pokémon?

In Pokémon, “sus” is fan slang for “suspicious,” often used as an Among Us-style impostor joke about Pokémon like Amoonguss, Ditto, and Zoroark.

In Pokémon conversations, “sus” is ordinary internet slang for “suspicious.” It is not an official Pokémon term or game mechanic. Fans use it as a joke, usually for a Pokémon that looks like it is hiding something, disguising itself, or simply seems odd.

What “sus” means

“Sus” is a clipped form of “suspicious.” Gaming communities also use related forms drawn from “suspect,” such as calling someone a suspect or describing a player as “sus.” The Among Us community glossary lists these meanings, and Nintendo’s July 27, 2021 article “How to be suspicious in Among Us” uses the same word for suspicious behavior in that game’s impostor-and-crewmate setting.

How Pokémon fans use it

In Pokémon discussions, the word is applied playfully to Pokémon whose designs, names, or abilities suggest deception. A July 2025 thread on the official Pokémon Forums, “What is the most SUS pokemon?”, shows the pattern clearly:

  • Amoonguss is the most common target. One poster argued that it evokes an impostor hiding “among” a group, a joke that works because of the Among Us association.
  • Ditto gets the joke through its Imposter Ability, which lets it transform into the Pokémon it faces.
  • Zoroark is a fan favorite for “sus” because it can disguise itself as another Pokémon.

A second July 2025 forum thread, “Do you find Pokémon Amoonguss kinda sus?”, received a reply that was itself an impostor joke. These are fan posts, so they show how players talk, not what The Pokémon Company intended.

Where the word comes from

“Sus” predates Among Us. Know Your Meme’s entry on the term and a PokéCommunity Daily article dated April 1, 2022, “The History of ‘Sus’ Pokémon,” both describe it as older slang. The game made it widely familiar, and its impostor mechanic gave the word its best-known context. The sources reviewed do not establish a single origin date for the slang, and they do not measure how much Among Us spread it.

How to use it in Pokémon chat

Use “sus” for a joke, a reaction, or a description of a design or ability that feels deceptive. Be aware of three limits:

  • It is informal. In a guide, a competitive analysis, or official-facing text, write the plain description instead.
  • It describes perception, not game data. Calling a Pokémon “sus” does not mean its stats, moves, or abilities change.
  • Its meaning depends on context. Among Us players use it for suspected impostors, while Pokémon fans use it for a Pokémon that looks like an impostor or disguises itself.

Bottom line

In Pokémon, “sus” means “suspicious,” and fans use it as a joke or casual description. It is community slang, not an official Pokémon definition or mechanic.
