Pressing F2 by itself does not have a documented diagnostic function in Roblox’s current Creator Hub reference. The F2-related shortcut that Roblox documents is a modifier combination that opens Debug Stats: Shift+Ctrl+F2 on Windows and Shift+Command+F2 on Mac. If someone told you that F2 opens Roblox’s stats, they were most likely describing Shift+F2, a combination that older community posts listed as a graphics or rendering overlay.
The documented shortcut is a modifier combination
Roblox’s official “Identify performance issues” page on the Creator Hub (accessed 8 October 2026) lists the Debug Stats shortcuts as Shift+Ctrl+F2 on Windows and Shift+Command+F2 on Mac. It does not list a bare F2 key. Debug Stats are overlays that show information about graphics, physics, network traffic, and frame rate (FPS).
Shortcuts that people confuse with F2
Several Roblox key combinations sit close together, and forum discussions often mix them up. The table below separates the current official references from older community guidance.

What the Debug Stats overlays are for
The overlays report on the client’s current performance. Roblox’s documentation describes them as covering graphics, physics, network traffic, and FPS. A separate Performance Stats toolbar shows basic figures such as memory, CPU, GPU, network data, and ping. If your underlying question is why a game stutters, these tools are a better starting point than any single key.

Roblox’s guidance on performance problems divides the work by where the problem appears. Frame rate, memory, and load time can be checked with tools in the client or in Studio. Client behavior can be observed directly, while server-side problems need diagnostic tools to inspect.
If you are in Roblox Studio
The official page points Studio users to the Window menu and then Performance to enable the Stats display. This lets you see which stats are active, which is useful when you cannot tell whether an overlay came from a shortcut you pressed or from a setting.

Custom controls can differ between experiences
An individual experience, meaning a specific game built on Roblox, may assign its own functions to keys. The official shortcut reference covers Roblox’s diagnostic tools, not each creator’s controls. So if pressing F2 does something in one game, that behavior comes from that game’s design rather than from a documented Roblox feature. Check the game’s own controls menu or instructions for that case.
Closing an overlay you did not mean to open
The official page explains how to turn Debug Stats on. It does not describe a universal close or toggle procedure for every overlay, so repeating the same shortcut should not be assumed to hide it. If an overlay is stuck on screen, the Studio Performance settings described above are the documented place to check which stats are enabled.
