Xbox is describing Project Helix as a next-generation family of devices, not yet as one fully specified retail product. That signals a broader hardware plan, but it does not confirm how many devices there will be, whether one will be a handheld, or what any model will cost or support.
What Xbox has actually said about Project Helix
In GamesRadar+’s August 29, 2026 coverage of a BBC News interview, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said the company had been working on “a great next generation and a great family of devices for Project Helix.” She also discussed playing both console and PC games on the console. The comments establish the family framing and an interest in console and PC game access, but not how that access would work in a product.
A longer description appeared in Pure Xbox’s October 6, 2026 report, which attributed an internal town-hall transcript to Windows Central. Sharma reportedly said: “We are moving to a family of devices for Gen-10. There is not one device that fits all. We will certainly have a great console first, but we also know that many players will be on the go.” She added that Xbox would make some things itself and partner on others, and said the operating system was starting to look good. This is reported speech from an internal meeting, not a formal product announcement.
What “family of devices” could mean—and what it does not confirm
The wording suggests Xbox is considering more than one way to reach players: potentially different form factors or a mix of Xbox-made and partner-built hardware. That is a reasonable interpretation of Sharma’s comments, not a confirmed roadmap.

The statements do not specify the number of devices, model names, prices, specifications, release dates, disc-drive options, partner companies, or regional availability. “Players on the go” makes portability a possibility to watch, but does not confirm an Xbox-made handheld. Likewise, the mention of partners does not identify a manufacturer or confirm a partner device.
It would be premature to treat a Series X/S-style split, digital-only and disc variants, or a handheld as announced products. The interview’s reference to console and PC games also does not establish that every Helix device will play the same PC games, use the same stores, or follow identical compatibility rules.

What the family approach may mean for players
Sharma has connected the next generation to performance, affordability, efficiency, hardware and component costs, and giving people more choice in how they play and purchase. Those are stated goals and pressures—not specifications, pricing commitments, or proof of particular models.
- Price and purchase options: Affordability and choice are priorities Xbox has named, but no Helix price, financing plan, or purchase model has been announced.
- Performance and efficiency: These are stated goals; there is no public model-by-model performance information in the cited statements.
- Where and how people play: The “on the go” remark raises portability as a possibility. In the town-hall report, Sharma described a console coming first, without giving a schedule.
- Game access: Sharma discussed console and PC games, but the available comments do not spell out titles, stores, compatibility, or whether access would differ across devices.
- Partner hardware and support: Xbox reportedly expects to make some devices and partner on others. The partners, their responsibilities, and support arrangements have not been specified.
Should you buy an Xbox now or wait for Helix?
Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are current-generation consoles and useful present-day comparison points; neither is a Project Helix model. If you need a console now, compare current options based on price, performance, physical-media needs, and the games you want to play. If you are comfortable waiting, watch for model-specific Helix details before deciding. The available statements do not establish whether waiting will save money or offer better value.

What to watch for in Xbox’s next announcements
The most useful updates will be concrete answers to the questions the “family” phrase leaves open:
- How many Helix devices Xbox plans to sell, and what each is designed to do.
- Whether a portable device is part of the lineup, and whether it is made by Xbox or a partner.
- Pricing, release timing, and availability by region.
- Performance, efficiency, and physical-media options for each model.
- Which console and PC games, stores, and compatibility rules apply to each device.
- Which hardware partners are involved and what support they will provide.
Until Xbox provides those details, “family of devices” describes the direction of the plan—not a finished lineup players can compare or preorder.
