Some games can pay real money, but “games that pay” covers very different things. Skillz offers eligible adults cash tournaments that require entry money and pay cash prizes to winners. Mistplay rewards selected gameplay with Units and other items that may be redeemed for gift cards or other rewards—not cash. Neither model promises earnings or a dependable hourly return.
What games actually pay real money?
Among the services described here, Skillz is the cash-tournament option: eligible players can enter cash competitions, and cash winnings can be withdrawn. Mistplay is a rewards app: gameplay may earn Units and other items that can be redeemed for rewards, but its terms say Units cannot be redeemed for cash.
That distinction matters when an app advertises that you can “earn” by playing. A withdrawable prize, a gift card, an in-app reward, and a promotional balance are not interchangeable. Check what form the payout takes before deciding whether a game is worth your time—or your money.
How do the two payout models compare?
| Option | What you may receive | How you earn it | Money required to participate | Eligibility and availability |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Skillz cash tournaments | Cash prizes for eligible competition winners; promotional Bonus Cash is not directly withdrawable. | Enter a cash tournament and win. Skillz says it matches players of similar skill and validates results on its servers; those are the company’s descriptions of its system, not independently tested findings. | Players add cash to enter cash tournaments, so entry money is at risk. | Over 18 and in a location where cash gameplay is enabled. Availability is not universal. |
| Mistplay rewards | Units and other items that may be redeemed for catalog rewards, including gift cards where offered. Units are not cash. | Play selected games or complete eligible milestones, tasks, and promotions. Offers, earning amounts, tracking, and rewards can vary by user and region. | The cited pages do not establish a universal participation cost; for new U.S. Android users in the events-first experience, Gems are earned on eligible in-app purchases. | Availability and catalog vary by region and device. Mistplay says its app is available through Google Play on supported Android devices; new U.S. Android users have a distinct experience effective June 30, 2026. |
The official pages do not provide comparable payout data or enough information to calculate earnings per hour. Treat claims about time-to-reward as dependent on your offers, activity, eligibility, and—in tournaments—results.

How Skillz cash tournaments work—and what can go wrong
Skillz describes itself as a multiplayer tournament platform with both cash and virtual-currency modes. In a cash competition, the player adds money and uses it to enter tournaments. If the player wins an eligible cash prize, Skillz says it is credited to a wallet and can be withdrawn. Bonus Cash is promotional: it can be used to play but is not itself directly withdrawable.
Skillz’s eligibility description is limited: “Cash competitions are available to all players over the age of 18 in areas of the world where cash gameplay is enabled.” The company’s support page says the sentence was updated April 17, 2025. Check local availability and the specific competition rules before depositing or entering; a cash entry fee is money at risk, not an investment or guaranteed return. Skillz’s cash competition and withdrawal rules and its overview of the platform explain its stated mechanics and availability.

What Mistplay rewards—and why its current U.S. Android offer needs context
Mistplay says users can earn Units and other items through selected games, milestones, tasks, and promotions. Its support page, updated February 13, 2025, lists gift cards among possible redemptions and says the app is available through Google Play on supported Android devices. The available activities, earning amounts, and rewards can differ by user and region; tracking also depends on gameplay data from game partners. Units are promotional and generally cannot be redeemed for cash.
There is an important date- and audience-specific change: Mistplay’s current terms say that, effective June 30, 2026, new users in the United States on Android enter an events-first rewards experience. In that experience, Units are redeemed for Shop rewards and in-app experiences. Gems are earned on eligible in-app purchases and cannot be exchanged for Units or redeemed in the Shop. This description applies to new U.S. Android users, not necessarily every Mistplay user. Read Mistplay’s app and rewards overview alongside its terms of use for the rules that apply to your region and account.

What to check before spending time or money
- Availability: Confirm that the app, game, and payout feature work in your country and on your device.
- Payout form: Identify whether the advertised benefit is withdrawable cash, a gift card, a nonwithdrawable bonus, points, or an in-app item.
- Costs and conditions: Check for deposits, tournament entry fees, required purchases, minimum redemption amounts, deadlines, and other restrictions in the current terms. The cited pages do not establish a universal redemption minimum or delay for either service.
- How rewards are earned: A tournament prize depends on winning; a rewards-app credit depends on eligible activity and successful tracking. Neither should be treated as a guaranteed return for time spent.
- Time versus value: Estimate the time you are willing to spend against the specific reward available to you. Official materials reviewed here do not publish comparable earnings-per-hour figures or typical winnings and losses.
For a cash tournament, only enter with money you can afford to lose. For a rewards app, make the decision based on the actual reward catalog and conditions shown to your account, not a cash-earnings claim.
