GameStop’s reported 10% Retro Trade-In Bonus was a limited-time promotion covered on March 18, 2026—not confirmation of an offer available on October 8, 2026. The reported bonus was extra store credit, not cash, and no model-specific payout was published. Check with your local store for current eligibility, its quote, and any active promotion before making a trip.
What was the GameStop retro trade-in offer?
ExtremeTech reported on March 18, 2026 that GameStop had introduced a limited-time bonus adding 10% to the usual trade value, in store credit, for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii U consoles, games, and accessories. The report did not provide a fixed payout or model-by-model values; the bonus would increase the store’s assessed trade value rather than guarantee a particular amount. Read the ExtremeTech report.
That report is historical, not proof the promotion remains active. No current official terms or exact expiration date are established here, so ask your store whether the retro-specific bonus is running before you go.
Does GameStop still give extra credit for these consoles?
GameStop’s official site separately advertises a general extra 10% trade-credit benefit for Pro members on games, consoles, and more. The page lists Pro membership at $25 per year, but it does not say that PS3, Xbox 360, or Wii U trades currently qualify for the specific retro promotion. Check the current terms and the store’s valuation for your item. See GameStop Pro benefits.

Will GameStop take a broken console or one missing cables?
The March 2026 report said stores would accept defective retro consoles if they powered on, including units missing accessories or showing heavy cosmetic wear. That is a reported promotion condition, not a verified current, chain-wide acceptance policy. Before traveling, call the specific location and describe the console’s fault, whether it powers on, its cosmetic condition, and which accessories are missing. Ask whether it will be accepted and whether those factors change the quote.
How to check your trade before going
- Identify the item. Give the store the console generation and model if known, and list any games or accessories you plan to bring.
- Describe its condition accurately. Say whether it powers on, what is broken or worn, and whether you have the controller, power supply, and cables.
- Ask for the current value and payment form. Confirm the quoted amount, whether it is cash or store credit, and whether any advertised bonus is included.
- Confirm the promotion’s terms. Ask whether the retro-specific offer is active at that location, which items qualify, and when it ends.
- Compare the trip with alternatives. Weigh the actual offer against travel or shipping effort and whether you prefer cash or credit.
Where else can you sell a PS3, Xbox 360, or Wii U?
PayMore’s Las Vegas service page lists PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, games, and accessories among items it buys. It says offers take account of condition, original components, and comparable local sales, and that accepted offers can be paid in cash or store credit. This describes its Las Vegas market; it does not establish availability or pricing elsewhere, or show that PayMore will pay more than GameStop. Check PayMore’s Las Vegas location.
