What GTD Means on a College Football Injury Report

GTD commonly means Game-Time Decision on a football report. It signals uncertainty about a player’s availability, not confirmation that he will play or miss the game.

GTD commonly means “Game-Time Decision.” On a college football injury report, it signals that a player’s availability is still uncertain—not that he is definitely playing or definitely out. Check the latest team or conference update for the player, since an earlier label may no longer reflect the decision near kickoff.

What does GTD mean?

In football roster and injury-report usage, GTD is short for “Game-Time Decision.” A football-roster glossary uses the term for a decision about whether a player dresses or starts. A Hamilton Tiger-Cats depth-chart legend states, “GTD DENOTES GAME TIME DECISION.” That is a CFL example, not an NCAA rule.

Does GTD mean the player will play?

No. The label means the player’s status has not been settled; it is not a promise that he will appear, and it does not confirm that he is out. The decision may become clearer as game time approaches.

Is GTD a standard NCAA status code?

The available college-football examples use the phrase “game-time call” in connection with conference availability reports, but they do not establish GTD as a uniform NCAA-mandated designation. RotoWire reported Kansas player Cam Pickett as a game-time call according to the Big 12 availability report on September 19, 2026, and Wisconsin player Bryan Jackson as a game-time call according to the Big Ten availability report on September 26, 2026. These are media accounts of report context, not evidence of one status code used across every team or conference.

How to check a player’s latest status

  1. Look for the latest availability update from the player’s team or conference.
  2. Use that update rather than relying on an older GTD label, because availability can change as kickoff nears.
  3. Do not assume there is one reporting schedule or decision deadline for all college teams; the available sources do not establish a universal one.

GTD also appears in other sports. For example, a RotoWire data dictionary defines it as Game-Time Decision in general data fields and says its terminology mirrors official NBA terminology. That cross-sport usage does not establish an NCAA football policy.
