That announcement did not name those games. Since then, Xbox has announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the original campaign, and assigned development of the next Halo title to a purpose-built Activision team. Xbox has not said whether that next title is part of the earlier slate.
What changed at 343 Industries?
On October 6, 2024, Xbox announced that 343 Industries was changing its name to Halo Studios. The change was part of a broader production reset: future Halo projects would use Unreal Engine 5, and the studio described changes to its workflow, team organization and culture. It also said multiple games were in development, without identifying them. Xbox Wire’s 2024 announcement framed the engine shift as a way to focus more team effort on making games rather than developing and maintaining a proprietary engine.
Studio Head Pierre Hintze described the change as a new approach to production: “So we’re not just going to try improve the efficiency of development, but change the recipe of how we make Halo games. So, we start a new chapter today.” COO Elizabeth Van Wyck said, “The way we made Halo games before doesn’t necessarily work as well for the way we want to make games for the future.”
Art Director Chris Matthews said some components of Slipspace, the studio’s previous engine, were “almost 25 years old.” That was his description of engine components, not an independent measurement of the age of every part of the engine.

Did the 2024 announcement reveal the new Halo games?
No. Xbox said multiple Halo projects were in development, but did not name them or provide individual release dates, platforms or descriptions. The rebrand and Unreal Engine 5 shift were production announcements, not a reveal of a defined list of upcoming games.
What was Project Foundry?
Project Foundry was a research and training effort to explore what it would take to build Halo in Unreal Engine. Halo Waypoint explicitly described it as “Neither a game nor a tech demo,” but as multidisciplinary research and a training tool for the studio’s future development process. The official description is in Halo Waypoint’s October 2024 announcement.

Its demonstration included Pacific Northwest-inspired “Coldlands” and Flood-consumed “Blightlands” environments. Those were demonstrations of visual development work; the announcement did not identify them as confirmed levels in a released or announced game.
What is Halo: Campaign Evolved?
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a ground-up remake of the campaign from Halo: Combat Evolved, not one of the still-unnamed projects from the 2024 announcement by virtue of any explicit statement. Executive Producer Damon Conn explained the choice of source material: “We wanted to start where it all began, with the original campaign that defined Halo.” Xbox and Halo Waypoint announced it on October 24, 2025.
