Admiral Lord Terrence Hood survives Halo 3. After the Human-Covenant War, he helps rebuild human society and pursue peace with the Arbiter and the Sangheili. He remains part of UNSC leadership until an attack on the UNSC Infinity in Halo: Escalation leaves him gravely injured and using a wheelchair.
Where Hood is at the end of Halo 3
Hood stays on Earth while Master Chief, the Arbiter and their forces travel through the portal to the Ark. The memorial ceremony shown after the battle takes place later, in March 2553, with Hood leading the service at Voi. He is not killed in the game’s ending.

What Hood does after the Human-Covenant War
Rebuilding and restoring civilian government
In the postwar period, Hood helps plan the reconstruction of human colonies. He also works to restore civilian government after the UNSC’s wartime emergency powers. Halopedia’s account of Hood describes these efforts and his role in pursuing peace with Thel ’Vadam, the Arbiter.
Building a human–Sangheili partnership
Hood responds to threats against the fragile relationship between humans and the Sangheili by creating the Anvil Initiative. Based at Anvil Station, the joint effort supports cooperation and testing emerging technologies. Halo Waypoint’s account of the Anvil Initiative connects its creation to Hood’s effort to protect the relationship with the Arbiter.

Hood’s role in later Halo stories
Hood continues to take part in high-level UNSC decisions after the war. In stories associated with Halo 4 and the Halo: Escalation comics, he debriefs John-117 after the Battle of Requiem and later sends him on another mission. His story continues beyond his appearance in Halo 3, though much of the detail is in expanded-universe fiction rather than the games themselves.
How Hood is injured in Halo: Escalation
In 2558, during the Oth Lodon storyline in Halo: Escalation, the UNSC Infinity is ambushed with Hood aboard. Debris impales him, leaving him seriously injured. The Spartans stop the attack, and Hood survives. He is later shown confined to a wheelchair while visiting the captured Daniel Clayton.

The comic collection is the most direct place to follow the attack and its immediate aftermath. The Halo: Escalation story reference covers the Oth Lodon events; the comics provide the expanded narrative behind this part of Hood’s story.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Admiral Hood dead, and what happens to him afterward?
No: he survives both the end of Halo 3 and the Oth Lodon attack. The events covered here establish that he remains active in UNSC leadership after the war and is alive after his injury. They do not establish a definitive later fate, so claims that he dies or retires afterward go beyond what these events confirm.
