Seattle indie developer Galvanic Games announced it was closing on June 14, 2024. Founder Patrick Morgan said sales of Wizard with a Gun were not sufficient to sustain the studio, and that signing new projects was taking longer than its remaining runway. The announcement is a 2024 story, not a new closure in October 2026.
Why did Galvanic Games close?
Morgan attributed the closure to the commercial performance of Wizard with a Gun and the time needed to secure future work. “Despite the promising start of Wizard with a Gun, sales are not strong enough to sustain our studio,” he wrote, according to GeekWire’s June 14, 2024 report.
Morgan also said, “The last year has been particularly tough for games.” He described encouraging conversations at the DICE Summit and Game Developers Conference, but said “the process of signing new projects … takes longer than the runway we had left.” The conference wording and ellipsis reflect GeekWire’s rendering of his statement. These are Morgan’s stated reasons; the cited coverage does not provide independently verified sales, financial accounts, or a precise runway figure.
What happened to the studio’s employees?
GeekWire reported at the time that ten employees were expected to lose their jobs. It also reported that Morgan shared a LinkedIn thread highlighting staff and helping them find new work. That is the employment impact reported at announcement time; the cited coverage does not give a later update on the employees’ situations.

What games did Galvanic Games make?
Founded by Morgan in 2015, Galvanic developed a varied catalog, including Some Distant Memory, Gurgamoth, Rapture Rejects, Questmore, The Rust Belt and Wizard with a Gun. The studio’s Steam developer catalog describes its games in these terms:
- Wizard with a Gun: an online sandbox survival game for one to four players, made with publisher Devolver Digital.
- Some Distant Memory: a hand-drawn story exploration game set 300 years after an apocalypse.
- Gurgamoth: a flying fighting game. Game Developer’s June 14, 2024 retrospective notes that early tools and pipeline work on The Rust Belt carried forward into Gurgamoth.
- Rapture Rejects: a collaboration involving Seattle publisher tinyBuild and the creators of the Cyanide & Happiness webcomic.
The Steam catalog also lists Wizard with a Gun DLC, a digital artbook and soundtrack downloads in MP3 and WAV formats. Those listings establish digital products, not physical editions or merchandise. Storefront listings do not establish that every item will remain available indefinitely.

Did Wizard with a Gun reach 100,000 players?
Yes. In a Steam announcement dated October 25, 2023, Galvanic said that 100,000 players had become “wizards with guns” following update 1.0.2. That is the studio’s player-count milestone at that date—not a sales figure, and not evidence that the game generated enough revenue to sustain the studio. The milestone appears in the Steam update announcement.

Morgan described the end as bittersweet, saying the studio had accomplished what it set out to do when founded in 2015. He also reflected that he had spent a decade building his ideal team, “only for it to end after our most productive year,” as quoted by Game Developer. The announcement and cited accounts establish that the studio was closing; they do not establish a later reopening, acquisition, or transfer of its games.
