Squad Busters did not replace Clash of Clans. Supercell launched it globally on May 29, 2024, as a separate multiplayer game bringing characters from five of its franchises together. Active development ended after a final update planned for December 2025, and Supercell’s stated server-closure window runs from mid to the end of 2026. The publisher has not confirmed an exact shutdown date.
When did Squad Busters come out?
Squad Busters went global on May 29, 2024. Supercell’s launch announcement called it a 10-person mobile multiplayer party-action game. The game had previously entered soft launch on April 23 in Canada, Mexico, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Singapore, following an announcement on April 8, 2024. Supercell’s global-launch announcement presented the worldwide release as the game’s arrival for players everywhere.
Supercell reported 40 million pre-registrations in the five weeks before launch. That is the publisher’s registration figure, not a count of downloads, active players, long-term retention or commercial success.
Was Squad Busters meant to replace Clash of Clans?
No evidence supports the idea that Squad Busters replaced or made Clash of Clans obsolete. It was a distinct crossover game featuring characters from Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars, Hay Day, Clash Royale and Boom Beach. The headline’s “make sure you forget about Clash of Clans” is best read as a launch-era hook, not a factual description of the games’ relationship.

In Squad Busters, players assembled a squad and competed with other squads to collect gems. Maps, character lineups and modifiers could vary between matches. That short-match, multiplayer structure differs from Clash of Clans; the games share a publisher and recognizable characters, but the sources do not establish them as direct substitutes or provide grounds to rank one above the other.
Why did Supercell end development?
Supercell said the game did not meet the expectations it and its players had for its games. In its October 30, 2025 announcement, the company said: “We were not able to find a lasting solution to its core problems.” That is Supercell’s explanation, not an independent measurement of player sentiment or retention.

The publisher described its May 2025 Heroes and Squaddies update as a major transformation of the core gameplay, but said it did not solve those problems. Supercell’s end-of-game FAQ says another major pivot would have changed the experience again without a guarantee that new players would connect with it. The company also said the original version was not scalable over the long term and that too few players connected deeply enough with the core gameplay to stay long term.
Is Squad Busters still playable, and when will it shut down?
Supercell said active development would end after one final update planned for December 2025, while the game would remain playable as its servers continued running. Its announced closure window is somewhere between mid and the end of 2026. The official sources cited here do not give an exact final shutdown date, and a stated plan is not proof that servers are online at this moment. Check Supercell’s official Squad Busters page or support information for a current availability check.

Supercell said in-app purchases stopped on October 30, 2025. It also announced a transfer option for purchases made in 2025 and playtime-based rewards or cosmetics in other Supercell games. The FAQ said the transfer option would remain open until the end of 2025; that deadline has passed, so it is historical rather than a current offer.

Supercell says Squad Busters will not be playable offline or through private servers after its official servers close. Player profiles and stats will also no longer be accessible. The publisher recommended saving screenshots or video clips before closure if players want a personal record of their progress.
