The Battle Bus was temporarily out of commission when Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1 launched. Players Storm Surfed to the island instead, and Epic announced the bus would return on December 4, 2025.
Why was the Battle Bus missing?
In its November 29, 2025 Chapter Seven: Pacific Break v39.00 update notes, Epic Games said: “While the Battle Bus is out of commission, you’ll Storm Surf your way to the Island instead!” The new Battle Royale map was called the Golden Coast.
Epic’s notes establish that the bus was out of commission and explain how players reached the island. They do not spell out the story’s cause for the bus being disabled. A November 30 report by Josh Challies at Insider Gaming says the launch trailer showed the Battle Bus being blown out of the sky; that detail comes from the trailer report, not Epic’s update notes.
How did players get to the island?
Instead of riding the Battle Bus, players Storm Surfed to the island. It was the launch-period arrival mechanic for Chapter 7 Season 1, as described in Epic’s update notes.
