The reporting establishes that historical status—not whether the mod is available today.
What was the Red Dead Redemption 2 Hot Coffee mod?
The mod was a fan-made modification for the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2, uploaded to Nexus Mods on February 12, 2020, according to PC Gamer’s February 20, 2020 report. It deliberately evoked the “Hot Coffee” name and premise associated with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It was not official Rockstar content.

Coverage described the RDR2 case as a mod made for the game—not as modders uncovering a dormant adult minigame already embedded in RDR2. Unlosing, identified in the coverage as one of the mod makers, said it used existing game assets and contained no nude models. The creator also described it as single-player only.
Why did Rockstar and Take-Two reportedly seek its removal?
PC Gamer reported that a February 18 video by SWEGTA quoted an email asserting that the mod violated the game’s EULA and Code of Conduct. The reported email cited restrictions on modifying the software and on posting sexually oriented material in online services. GameSpot and PC Gamer subsequently covered the removal request; neither report establishes a court ruling that the mod violated those terms.

Unlosing disputed the rationale. The creator told PCGamesN, in comments quoted by GameSpot and PC Gamer: “The mod doesn’t contain any nudity or nude models, and only uses assets that are still in the game.” Unlosing said its animations came from the Lenny drunk-bar mission, its sounds were character injury sounds, and the mod was limited to single-player. Those are the creator’s claims, rather than independently verified technical findings.
How did the San Andreas controversy differ?
The name refers to the original “Hot Coffee” controversy around Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but the two cases had different origins. GameSpot’s March 3, 2020 report describes San Andreas’s Hot Coffee as an inaccessible sequence in which CJ had sex with his girlfriend; the simulated intercourse was fully clothed. Modders exposed that sequence in the PC release in 2005. The resulting controversy led to an Adults Only rating until Rockstar patched the content out.

In the RDR2 case, the reported subject was a fan-created modification, followed by a reported demand to remove it. In San Andreas, modders exposed content already present but inaccessible in the game. The shared name explains the reference; it does not make the technical circumstances identical.

GameSpot updated its story on March 3, 2020, to say the Nexus Mods listing was hidden and inaccessible to regular users. It also said the reason for that change was unclear—it could have involved the legal dispute, Nexus Mods, or the creators. That report does not establish the mod’s current availability.

Do not confuse it with Nexus Mods’ separate “Saloon Coffee” listing. That page describes a conventional in-game coffee feature, not the adult-themed mod at the center of the 2020 controversy.
