Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallUninstalling Minecraft Bedrock removes the installed game, but it does not reliably decide what happens to your worlds. Whether they survive depends on your platform, where the world was stored, and whether a current copy exists somewhere other than the device you are uninstalling from. Treat any world that exists only on the device as at risk until you have made a separate copy.
Signing in with a Microsoft account is not a universal restore. On Xbox, cloud saves tied to the account can bring worlds back. On Android and iPhone or iPad, the documented recovery routes depend on how the files were stored and copied, and no account sign-in replaces them.

Why the answer depends on your platform
Minecraft Bedrock stores worlds in different places on each device, and Minecraft’s help pages describe different backup behavior for each one. A Microsoft account does not automatically protect worlds on every platform, so the first question is which device you are uninstalling from.
| Platform | Where the copy lives | Backup automatic or manual? | Independent of the game install? | Restore route |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox (console) | Xbox cloud saves for the signed-in profile, or the console’s local storage | Automatic for worlds that have been played or created online; a world that has never been played or backed up stays local only | Yes, for cloud-synced worlds; no for local-only worlds | Launch Minecraft to sync cloud saves, or use the cloud-restore steps below |
| Android, External storage | Folder on internal storage or an SD card | Manual copy over USB | Yes, once copied to a computer or another device | Copy the folder back to the same location, or to the new device |
| Android, Application storage | App-private storage | Manual, through the Realms transfer route | Not stated for a direct file copy; Minecraft points to Realms transfer instead | Realms transfer instructions in Minecraft’s help |
| iPhone and iPad | The Minecraft games folder on the device | Manual copy to a Mac through Finder, or to iCloud | Yes, once copied off the device | Copy the folder back to the device or restore it from iCloud |
| PlayStation and Nintendo Switch | Console save data and any cloud save option | Not stated in the official material reviewed | Not stated | Follow the current console-specific Minecraft help |
| Windows | Local world folders | Manual, following Minecraft’s Windows backup article | Not stated; copy the worlds elsewhere before uninstalling | Follow the current Windows-specific Minecraft backup instructions |
The table shows what Minecraft’s official help establishes. Where a cell says “not stated,” the official help pages reviewed do not confirm that behavior, so do not assume it.

Make a backup before you uninstall
Before removing Minecraft from any device, confirm whether each world has a copy you can reach without the game installed. Minecraft’s own Android troubleshooting article recommends saving a backup first, warning that the process can cause you to lose worlds or saved data. Apply the same caution everywhere, because the official guidance treats local copies as the one you cannot count on.
Xbox: check for cloud-synced worlds first
Minecraft says Xbox automatically saves your most recent worlds to the cloud. Cloud saving requires the console to be online and the player to be signed in. New worlds are backed up when they are created. Worlds created while offline are backed up the first time you play them. Minecraft’s Xbox cloud-save help puts it plainly: “Worlds you don’t play will only exist on your device until you back them up.”
Minecraft’s Play screen labels each world as cloud-synced, cloud-only, or local-only. Cloud-only worlds can be downloaded to the console. Local-only worlds have not been uploaded yet, so they will not come back from the cloud after an uninstall. To check or fix this:

- Explore randomly-generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in Creative Mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armour to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Open Minecraft and go to Settings, then Storage, then Manage Worlds.
- Find each world marked local-only and check its status.
- Manually upload any local-only world you want to keep, then confirm it shows as cloud-synced.
If a local Xbox save is missing or out of date, Minecraft’s documented recovery is a cloud restore:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- From the Xbox home screen, open My games & apps.
- Select Manage for Minecraft.
- Select Saved data, then the profile you use.
- Choose Delete from console.
- Launch Minecraft so it syncs and downloads the latest cloud save.
Only use the delete step after you have confirmed the world is cloud-synced. “Delete from console” removes the local copy, and a local-only world that was never uploaded cannot be recovered that way.
Android: the backup route depends on storage type
The most important Android question is where Minecraft stored your worlds. Open the storage setting in Minecraft to see whether File Storage Location was set to External or Application. Minecraft’s Android help distinguishes the two.

External storage
If the world was created with File Storage Location set to External, Minecraft documents a direct file copy to a computer or another Android device:
- Connect the phone to your computer with a USB data cable.
- On the phone, when the USB notification appears, choose File Transfer (MTP).
- Open Android/data/com.mojang.minecraftpe/files/games/com.mojang/minecraftWorlds.
- Copy the whole minecraftWorlds folder, or the individual world folders you need, to a safe location.
Use a cable that carries data, not one that only charges. A charge-only cable will show the phone connected but will not let you browse its storage. Connector type also varies by phone, so confirm that your cable fits both the phone and the computer.
Recommended Free Tools
Minecraft’s troubleshooting article notes that the folder may be in internal storage or on an external SD card, and that Android Scoped Storage can block access to it. If the folder does not appear, check both locations and grant storage access before concluding the world is missing.
Rank #4
Application storage
If the world was created with File Storage Location set to Application, Minecraft does not promise a direct file copy. Its help points you to the Realms transfer instructions instead. Realms availability, terms, and any subscription cost can change, so confirm them in Minecraft before relying on that route.

Minecraft’s iPhone and iPad instructions describe a folder copy made before you remove the game:
- Connect the device to a Mac with a USB cable.
- Open Finder, select the device in the sidebar, and open the Files tab.
- Expand Minecraft.
- Drag the games folder to a safe location on the Mac.
Minecraft’s help also says iCloud can back up the games folder. Copying the folder is a backup step you take before uninstalling. Uninstalling does not preserve the folder automatically, so do not rely on the app being removed to keep it intact.

PlayStation and Nintendo Switch
Minecraft’s Backup and Restore help lists separate topics for cloud saves on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. The official material reviewed does not confirm what uninstalling does to local worlds on either console, so no general statement is safe. Check the current console-specific Minecraft help and your console’s save-data screen, and confirm a backup exists before you uninstall.
Windows
Minecraft’s Backup and Restore help includes a Bedrock world backup article for Windows. The steps there are specific to that platform, and the official material reviewed does not confirm how uninstalling affects world folders. Follow the current Windows instructions, and copy your worlds to a location outside the game folders before removing Minecraft. Do not rely on a particular folder path unless Minecraft’s current Windows help lists it.
Purchases, settings, and other content
Minecraft’s backup guidance covers worlds. It does not establish that every setting, locally imported pack, or other custom file returns after a reinstall, so do not count on those surviving. Store purchases are tied to your account and the platform storefront, which is a separate question from whether your local world files come back. For a definitive answer about a specific purchase, contact the storefront or Minecraft support.
After you reinstall
Reinstalling the game and restoring a world are separate steps. Reinstalling alone does not bring worlds back. Use the restore route that matches your platform:
- Xbox: sign in with the same profile, launch Minecraft so cloud saves sync, and check that cloud-only worlds appear.
- Android (External): copy the saved minecraftWorlds folder back into the same location.
- Android (Application): use the Realms transfer route.
- iPhone and iPad: copy the games folder back, or restore it from iCloud.
After restoring, open each world before you delete any backup copy, and keep the backup until you have confirmed the world loads.
