Roblox’s Creator Hub states it directly: “You must manually assign pass privileges to users that purchase your passes.” The perk a pass provides is whatever your experience’s code grants, and that grant has to happen in two places: when the purchase completes, and when a player joins with the pass already owned.
What the buyer actually receives
The purchase gives the player ownership of the pass for that experience. Ownership is the entitlement; the benefit is separate. A pass might unlock an ability, a bonus, access to an area, or another privilege, but the developer defines that effect and writes the code that applies it. Roblox’s Passes documentation does not promise that every pass delivers an item immediately, and it does not promise that every pass carries the same kind of benefit.
Two ways a player can end up owning the pass
A buyer can acquire a pass in two different ways, and each one needs a different check in your code.

The second path is the one that is easy to miss. A player who bought the pass elsewhere never fires the in-experience prompt, so a purchase-only script will never reward them.

What creators must build
The purchase-completion event reports the outcome of a prompt. It does not give anything to the player by itself. Your script has to act on that outcome, and it has to handle ownership on every join.
Purchase-time handling
- Place the handling script in
ServerScriptService, which is where Roblox recommends putting it. - Listen for
PromptGamePassPurchaseFinishedfrom a server script. Per the MarketplaceService reference, the event fires when the purchase prompt closes, and when it fires the ownership cache is updated. - Read the
wasPurchasedargument. It indicates whether the user pressed OK, canceled, or hit a purchase-prompt error. Grant the configured benefit only when the purchase succeeded. - Apply the privilege on the server. The reference warns against relying on client-side values for validation or game logic.
Join-time ownership check
When a player joins, call UserOwnsGamePassAsync for each pass your experience sells. If the player owns it, grant the matching benefit. This one check covers two cases: returning players whose benefit should persist across visits, and players who bought the pass outside the experience.

Purchase history
Roblox does not record pass purchase history for specific users. Creators can request sales data, but if you need to know which individual player bought what and when, you must store that history yourself. The Creator Hub is explicit on this point, so plan the data storage before launch rather than after a support question arrives.
When a promised benefit appears to be missing
The documentation explains how ownership and benefits are meant to work, but it does not diagnose a particular game or account. Work through the platform-side checks first:

- Confirm the purchase actually succeeded. A canceled prompt or a purchase-prompt error produces a
wasPurchasedvalue that should not trigger a grant. - Confirm the handler is a server script in
ServerScriptServiceand is listening forPromptGamePassPurchaseFinished. - Confirm the join-time
UserOwnsGamePassAsynccheck runs for every player, not only for players who buy inside the experience. - Confirm your code maps that specific pass to a specific privilege. A pass with no implemented benefit will show ownership without any visible effect.
- If the buyer bought outside the experience, have them rejoin and check whether the join-time path grants the benefit.
If none of these explains the problem, the cause sits in your experience’s own code, because the documentation does not cover account-level outcomes.

Roblox’s pass documentation does not provide general purchase rates, revenue figures, or player-outcome statistics, so none should be assumed from it. Whatever a specific pass does in a specific game depends entirely on that game’s implementation.

The question is also not about a named experience. The answer above describes how Roblox passes work for any creator, not what a particular game grants.
