Choosing Reset Simulation at the end of the Artemis Path sends you to a new galaxy instead of keeping you in Euclid. Player reports say your bases and possessions carry over, but the technology installed on your active exosuit, starship, and multitool may be damaged when you arrive.

This article assumes “the Atlas” means the No Man’s Sky quest choice. The name also appears in other games and devices, so if you meant something else, this guide will not apply.

What the Reset Simulation choice does

The Atlas choice is a story decision with a practical side effect: it moves you out of Euclid. A January 2023 Steam Community discussion describes the outcome this way. Resetting the simulation takes you to another galaxy, while refusing leaves you in Euclid. These are player-reported results, not an official guarantee, so treat them as the expected outcome rather than a promise for every save.

The story frames the choice as resetting a simulation. The gameplay result is simpler: you continue playing in a different galaxy.

Where you end up

You arrive in a new galaxy and continue from there. The discussion does not describe a specific starting system or any new objective tied to the arrival, so do not expect a particular location.

What you keep

According to the same discussion, your progress and property remain. It names bases, starships, and multitools among the things retained. It also says you can return to Euclid later through stations or bases you have already visited. This is the main answer to the question many players ask: the reset does not appear to wipe your possessions.

What may be damaged

The discussion warns that non-core technology installed on your active exosuit, active starship, and active multitool may be damaged. “Non-core” is the player’s wording and the report does not define it further, so check your loadout before you choose. This is the most important practical warning in the reports.

Reset or refuse

Refusing keeps you in Euclid and lets you finish the quest choice without moving to a new galaxy. The community discussion suggests you can still change galaxies later through other routes, but it does not describe the full list of options.

Choice Reported outcome What to weigh
Reset Simulation Travel to a new galaxy; bases and possessions kept; installed technology on active equipment may be damaged. Pick this if you want the story to move you onward and you are willing to repair equipment afterward.
Refuse the Atlas Stay in Euclid; no move to a new galaxy from this choice. Pick this if you want to remain in Euclid for now. Other galaxy-travel routes are described as still available.

Preparing for the move

The discussion’s advice on preparation is player advice, not an official instruction. One commenter recommends bringing wiring looms, but the reports do not establish how many you need or whether you must buy anything. Treat repair preparation as optional. The most reliable guide is the repair requirement shown in your own game’s inventory and technology screens once you arrive.

Because the damage risk falls on installed technology, a sensible habit is to check your equipment before you make the choice. Note which technology is installed on your exosuit, starship, and multitool, so you know what to inspect afterward.

Galaxy core travel

The discussion also says that traveling through a galaxy core can cause similar damage to installed technology. That means the equipment risk is not unique to the Atlas choice. If you plan to change galaxies by other means, expect the same kind of check afterward.

How current these reports are

The main source is a community discussion dated January 2023. It describes player experience, not official design. The only official material reviewed here is Hello Games’ Worlds Part I update notes for No Man’s Sky version 5.0, published in July 2024. Those notes describe planetary variety changes and state that existing planetary bases were not moved. They do not mention the Atlas reset choice, so they cannot confirm what happens to a save when you select it.
