Spoilers: This explains the final battle and both credit scenes. Val defeats Daelophos, then uses the Mana Sword to wish for a world that no longer needs Alms. He lives a full life and dies of old age; only after his death does he reunite with Hinna. The ending gives the world a hopeful future, but does not restore Hinna to Val’s mortal life.
Why the pilgrimage puts Hinna and Val at risk
In Visions of Mana, Hinna is chosen as the Alm of Fire, and her childhood friend Val becomes her soul guard. Square Enix’s official description explains the ritual: “Every four years, alms from around the world are chosen to travel to the Tree of Mana and rejuvenate the flow of mana power by offering their souls.” The journey therefore asks the Alms to give up their lives for the world’s mana.
How Eoren’s choice releases Daelophos
Eoren takes Hinna’s corestone in an attempt to save Lyza from petrification and awaken the Mana Sword. Instead, his action releases Daelophos. Daelophos kills Eoren and Lyza, then pursues revenge connected to the murder of Cerulia. Hinna is killed by Eoren’s attempt to save Lyza, making the betrayal personal for Val as well as a turning point in the larger conflict.
What happens in the final battle
At the Tree of Mana, Val and his companions defeat Daelophos. The Mana Sword is restored with help from those connected to the Tree, including Hinna and Eoren. Daelophos and Cerulia reunite as they pass on. Val then uses the sword to wish for a world in which Alms are no longer needed.

What the two credit scenes show
Mid-credits: a different future for the world
The mid-credits scenes show mana flowing freely. Val’s surviving companions help rebuild, suggesting that life continues after the old sacrifice-based system has ended.
Post-credits: Val and Hinna meet again
The post-credits scene jumps forward to Val in old age. After he dies, he reunites with Hinna, who appears as the Goddess of Mana. The scene confirms that Val eventually sees Hinna again, but it does not show her returning to share his mortal years.

What the ending means—and what it leaves unclear
The story places three responses to grief alongside one another. Daelophos turns loss into vengeance against the world. Eoren tries to undo his loss and, in doing so, harms Hinna. Val also grieves, but accepts that he cannot bring Hinna back to an ordinary life. His wish instead changes what future Alms will be asked to do. This is an interpretation of the story’s events, not a quoted explanation from the developers.
The wish is specifically for a world that no longer needs Alms, and the credits show mana flowing freely. The scenes do not spell out every detail of how that world works. Nor do they explain what Val and Hinna experienced or knew of one another during the years before his death; the reunion is shown, but its metaphysical details are not established.
