If a player never takes part in the game, a player prop may be void under the sportsbook’s rules. If the player takes part and is injured later, the bet may still stand and settle on the result recorded before the player left. The exact outcome depends on the sportsbook, jurisdiction and specific market—not on one NFL-wide rule.
What if the player never plays?
Some sportsbooks require a player to participate before a player prop has action. In DraftKings’ NFL house rules dated May 14, 2024, the player must take part in at least one play, including a special-teams play. If the player is listed as inactive or did not play, the player market is void. DraftKings NFL house rules (PDF)
FanDuel’s New Jersey rules likewise say ordinary player props are void if the player does not play a snap, though the rules include exceptions and distinct treatment for certain markets. FanDuel New Jersey house rules
What if the player starts, then gets injured?
An injury after the player has met the sportsbook’s participation threshold does not automatically void the wager. DraftKings says bets generally stand when a player starts or meets the applicable playing-time requirement, then settle according to its house rules. Under its cited NFL rules, participation is the threshold for ordinary player props. DraftKings support: player bet settlement DraftKings NFL house rules (PDF)

#1 Best Overall
- Wilson The Duke NFL Replica Football - Official Size, Brown
- OFFICIAL SIZE: Official regulation size for High School and College Football, ideal for ages 14 and up
- REPLICA STYLE: Built to get as close as we can to the real Duke delivering a similar look and performance, and updated with the red, silver, and blue NFL Shield
- PRECISION LACES: Raised pebbled laces give your fingers stronger grip points allowing for more control, as well as, easier accurate throwing
- COMFORT CONSTRUCTION: A thicker 1.2mm layer of EVA foam underneath outer cover giving the ball a softer grip and feel
That means a prop can settle on the result already recorded even if the player exits early. Whether a particular ticket follows that general rule depends on its market terms.
Why the type of bet matters
“Player prop” is not enough detail to predict every settlement. First-stat and longest-stat bets, quarter props, drive props, futures and live wagers may have their own conditions. FanDuel’s New Jersey rules, for example, separately address an active kicker who records no snap and live quarter or drive bets placed after an injury. Read the rule for the exact market on your ticket rather than assuming the ordinary player-prop threshold applies. FanDuel New Jersey house rules DraftKings NFL house rules (PDF)

What do Questionable, Doubtful and Out mean?
NFL injury designations describe availability, but they do not by themselves determine how a sportsbook settles a wager. The NFL’s 2016 policy announcement defined Questionable as uncertain to play, Doubtful as unlikely to participate, and Out as the player will not play. Check the sportsbook’s rules to learn what those statuses mean for your specific bet. NFL injury-report policy announcement DraftKings NFL house rules (PDF)

No. DraftKings describes an Early Exit program that may provide cash credits when a bet is significantly affected by a player leaving due to injury and not returning. Those credits are separate from voiding a market and depend on the program’s eligibility terms; they are not an automatic refund or a general settlement rule. How to check your ticket
- Identify the market. Check whether the wager is a standard player prop, first- or longest-stat bet, quarter or drive prop, future, live wager or part of a bet builder.
- Open the rules for your sportsbook and jurisdiction. Rules can vary by operator, state and rule version; examples from DraftKings and FanDuel New Jersey do not establish the terms used by every sportsbook.
- Check the participation threshold and exceptions. Look for whether a snap or any play counts, whether special teams count, and how inactive or did-not-play players are treated.
- For an injury during play, check the market-specific settlement terms. If you think the ticket was settled incorrectly, consult the operator’s rules and contact its support process.
