Its non-empty tabs become remove-only tabs, where you can retrieve items. Other games use different rollover rules, so check the rules for the specific game and season.
What happens to my stash when the league ends?
In Path of Exile, the contents of a temporary challenge league move to its permanent parent league. A 2023 response from Grinding Gear Games staff confirms that contents of league-specific containers are stored in remove-only stash tabs when a temporary league migrates to permanent Standard or Hardcore. The practical result: open the permanent league and look for the tabs containing your old league items.
“Remove-only” means you can take items out of the tab, but it is not an ordinary extra tab for storing new items. A community-maintained PoE forum guide last edited in 2018 says migrated tabs may appear at the end of the stash-tab list and may not preserve their former order. Treat that as a useful place to check, not a guaranteed current layout.
Which permanent league receives your items?
The destination follows the mode you played. The mapping below comes from a community guide last edited in 2018; the newer GGG staff response confirms the general Standard and Hardcore migration behavior.

How to find items that seem missing
- Open the matching permanent league. Check the mode as well as the league name: Standard, Hardcore Standard, or the corresponding SSF mode.
- Inspect the stash-tab list for remove-only tabs. Check near the end of the list as a troubleshooting tip, since older guidance says migrated tabs may be placed there.
- Check the migration menu from the character-selection screen. GGG staff said some migration may take several days and advised using this menu to move additional progress or stash tabs.
- Contact Grinding Gear Games support if it remains incomplete after several days. This is the escalation GGG staff gave for migrations that have not completed.
Does the next league get your old stash?
No. The end-of-league transfer to a permanent league is separate from the start of a new challenge league. A new league begins as a fresh start; do not expect items from Standard to be copied into it. Purchased stash tabs are account-wide according to the 2018 community guide, but that does not move the items inside them into a new league.
Path of Exile 2 illustrates why it is worth checking the announcement for the particular game and transition. In an Aug. 18, 2025 notice, GGG said Dawn of the Hunt characters and items would migrate to Standard or Hardcore Early Access, with no wipes planned, and described the new league as having a fresh economy. Those details describe that specific PoE2 transition, not every PoE game mode or future league.

League endings work differently in other games
“League” is not a universal storage rule. Check where items go, how you retrieve them, whether there is a claim deadline, how special modes map, and whether migration is delayed. For a historical contrast, Blizzard’s 2018 Diablo III Season 12 notice said seasonal stash items would arrive by in-game mail and could be claimed within 30 days of a player’s first login after the season ended. That dated example should not be taken as current guidance for Diablo III seasons.
