Yes—standard Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model bundles include an HDMI cable with the dock. Nintendo Switch Lite does not support TV mode, so it does not use an HDMI cable for television output. Nintendo Switch 2 includes a different Ultra High Speed HDMI cable, and Nintendo says the original Switch cable is not sufficient for Switch 2 TV mode.

Which Nintendo Switch models include an HDMI cable?

Model or package HDMI cable included? TV output? Important qualification
Standard Nintendo Switch bundle Yes Yes The cable is included with the dock.
Nintendo Switch – OLED Model standard bundle Yes Yes It comes with the OLED dock, which has a built-in LAN port.
Nintendo Switch Lite No No It does not support TV mode or docked TV output.
Nintendo Switch Dock Set Yes Yes, with a compatible Switch Nintendo lists a dock, HDMI cable, and AC adapter.
Nintendo Switch 2 Yes, but it is a different cable Yes The included cable is Ultra High Speed HDMI.

These details describe Nintendo’s standard North American retail packages. Limited editions, console-only packages, used systems, refurbished products, and retailer-specific bundles can have different contents.

Does the original Nintendo Switch come with an HDMI cable?

Yes, the standard docked Nintendo Switch bundle includes an HDMI cable. The cable is part of the TV-output setup: it connects the dock’s HDMI OUT port to an HDMI input on your television or monitor. It does not plug directly into the Switch console.

Nintendo’s accessory documentation also lists the separately sold Nintendo Switch Dock Set as including the dock, HDMI cable, and AC adapter.

Does Nintendo Switch OLED come with an HDMI cable?

Yes. The standard Nintendo Switch – OLED Model package includes:

  • Nintendo Switch – OLED Model console
  • Nintendo Switch dock with built-in LAN port
  • Left and right Joy-Con controllers
  • Joy-Con wrist straps
  • Joy-Con Grip
  • AC adapter
  • HDMI cable

The OLED dock is model HEG-007. The standard Switch dock is model HAC-007. Both provide HDMI output for TV mode. Nintendo’s OLED Model overview and FAQ identifies the OLED bundle contents and explains the dock’s built-in wired-networking port.

The OLED HDMI cable should not automatically be described as faster or better than the standard Switch cable. Nintendo’s cited package documentation simply calls the included item an HDMI cable.

Does Switch Lite come with an HDMI cable?

No—but the key reason is not merely that Nintendo left the cable out. Switch Lite does not support TV mode. It is not compatible with a dock for displaying gameplay on a television, so buying an HDMI cable will not turn it into a docked console.

Nintendo’s support information confirms that Switch Lite does not support TV mode. See Nintendo’s TV connection instructions and model information before buying a cable or dock.

What type of HDMI cable comes with Switch?

Nintendo identifies the original Switch and OLED-bundle accessory simply as an HDMI cable. The cited documentation does not assign it a consumer-facing classification such as “High Speed HDMI,” nor does it identify it as HDMI 1.4, HDMI 2.0, or HDMI 2.1.

For that reason, do not rely on unsupported claims about the exact HDMI version of a particular included cable. If you need to identify a cable you already own, inspect its packaging or markings. The cable uses full-size HDMI connectors and is intended to run from the dock to the TV or monitor.

How to connect a Switch to a TV

  1. Connect the Switch AC adapter to the dock’s AC ADAPTER port and plug the adapter into a wall outlet.
  2. Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the dock’s HDMI OUT port.
  3. Connect the other end to an HDMI input on the TV or monitor.
  4. Close the dock’s back cover if your dock has one.
  5. Insert the Switch console into the dock with its screen facing the front of the dock.
  6. Turn on the TV and select the HDMI input used by the dock.

The HDMI cable connects to the dock, not the handheld tablet. A LAN cable is not required for ordinary TV output. The OLED dock’s LAN port is for wired internet and is separate from its HDMI connection; the standard dock needs a compatible USB LAN adapter and LAN cable for wired networking. Nintendo provides a diagram of the Switch dock showing the relevant ports.

Can you use a different HDMI cable with the original Switch?

Yes. For the original Switch or OLED model, Nintendo’s setup instructions require an HDMI cable; they do not state that it must be Nintendo-branded. A compatible, undamaged replacement should work when connected between the dock’s HDMI OUT port and the display’s HDMI input.

Choose a replacement with:

  • Full-size HDMI connectors on both ends
  • Enough length for your setup
  • No visible damage, bent connectors, or loose ends
  • Clear product labeling and a reputable seller or return policy
  • Capabilities appropriate for the display equipment you plan to use

You generally do not need to pay a premium for Nintendo branding when replacing a cable for the original Switch. However, avoid promising that every cheap or damaged cable will work reliably. An intermittent signal, flickering image, or no-signal message can be caused by the cable, dock, TV input, power connection, or console seating.

A higher-spec cable may be a sensible universal purchase if you also expect to use it with newer hardware, but it cannot increase the original Switch’s own video-output capabilities.

Important: the original Switch cable is not the Switch 2 cable

Nintendo explicitly distinguishes the cables. Nintendo Switch 2 includes an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable, and Nintendo says the HDMI cable included with the original Switch is not Ultra High Speed and cannot be used to play Switch 2 in TV mode. This does not necessarily mean the connectors cannot physically fit; it means the original cable does not meet Switch 2’s TV-mode requirement.

If you need a replacement for Switch 2, use Nintendo’s supplied cable or another cable explicitly identified as Ultra High Speed HDMI. Nintendo says the cable type should be marked on the cable. See Nintendo’s guidance on Switch 2 HDMI cable compatibility and identifying the required cable.

What if your HDMI cable is missing?

New standard Switch or OLED system

The standard retail package should contain an HDMI cable. Check the dock box, accessory compartment, and any separately packed inserts before buying another one.

Used or refurbished system

The seller may have separated or omitted the original cable even though it was included in the new retail bundle. Check the listing’s stated contents rather than assuming every original accessory is present.

Replacement Dock Set

Nintendo lists the official Switch Dock Set with a dock, HDMI cable, and AC adapter. That is different from a dock-only product or a used marketplace listing, so verify the exact package contents before ordering.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Switch Lite

Do not buy an HDMI cable expecting TV output from Switch Lite. Its lack of TV support is a console limitation, not an accessory problem.

Need a replacement?

  • Lost only the cable? A reputable third-party full-size HDMI replacement is the relevant purchase for the original Switch or OLED model.
  • Lost the dock and cable? Consider the official Nintendo Switch Dock Set, whose listed contents include the dock, HDMI cable, and AC adapter.
  • Using Switch 2? Choose an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable.
  • Have Switch Lite? Do not buy an HDMI cable for TV output; the console does not support TV mode.

No signal from the Switch dock: troubleshooting checklist

  1. Confirm the HDMI cable is connected to the dock’s HDMI OUT port.
  2. Confirm the other end is connected to the TV’s HDMI input.
  3. Select the matching HDMI input on the TV.
  4. Confirm the AC adapter is connected to the dock and wall outlet.
  5. Reseat the console in the dock.
  6. Try another HDMI input on the TV.
  7. Try a known-good HDMI cable.
  8. If possible, test the dock with another compatible TV.
  9. Confirm that the console is not a Switch Lite.

The first five checks follow Nintendo’s connection procedure. The later cable, input, and display tests are practical ways to isolate a faulty cable or component.

Bottom line

Buy or expect an HDMI cable with a standard docked Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch – OLED Model bundle. Switch Lite has no TV output and therefore does not use one. For the original Switch, a suitable third-party HDMI cable is normally enough; for Switch 2, use an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable because Nintendo says the original Switch cable cannot support Switch 2 TV mode.

Does the HDMI cable plug into the Switch or the dock?

It plugs into the dock’s HDMI OUT port. The other end connects to an HDMI input on the TV or monitor.

Can I use a third-party HDMI cable with the original Switch?

Yes. Nintendo’s setup instructions call for an HDMI cable rather than a specifically Nintendo-branded cable. Use a full-size, undamaged cable from a reputable seller.

Does the Nintendo Switch Dock Set include an HDMI cable?

Yes. Nintendo lists the Dock Set as including the dock, HDMI cable, and AC adapter. Verify the contents of used or third-party listings.

Can I use my old Switch HDMI cable with Switch 2?

Not for Switch 2 TV mode. Nintendo says the original cable is not Ultra High Speed and requires the Switch 2 cable or another cable explicitly marked Ultra High Speed HDMI.

Is the OLED HDMI cable different from the regular Switch cable?

Nintendo’s cited package information does not establish a documented HDMI-cable upgrade for OLED. The major accessory difference is the OLED dock’s built-in LAN port.

What should I do if my Switch dock shows no signal?

Check HDMI OUT, the TV input, dock power, and console seating first. Then try another TV input and a known-good HDMI cable. Remember that Switch Lite cannot output to a TV.
