Yes—the Amazon Games app is still the correct Windows launcher for some downloadable PC games claimed through Amazon. Amazon’s support documentation identifies the installer as AmazonGamesSetup.exe. You download it, install it, sign in with the Amazon account that claimed the game, and install the title from your library.
However, “Twitch Prime games” is an outdated name. Twitch Prime became Prime Gaming, and Amazon has since moved much of its gaming-benefit branding under Amazon Luna. Not every Prime offer uses the Amazon Games app: some use GOG, Epic Games Store, Legacy Games, another publisher service, or Luna cloud play.

Before downloading: identify the game’s delivery method
Open the individual game offer on Amazon’s current gaming or Prime-benefits page and read the claim instructions. The wording normally tells you which service to use:

Amazon says Prime gaming offers can be distributed through the Amazon Games app, GOG, Epic Games Store, Legacy Games, codes, and other game-specific services. What you need
- A Windows PC. Amazon’s documented installer is a Windows executable; the cited support page does not establish native macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android support.
- An Amazon account.
- An eligible Prime benefit or a completed claim for the game.
- The same Amazon account used to claim the title.
- An internet connection and enough free storage for the game.
Prime gaming benefits vary by country or territory. Amazon describes them as benefits associated with Prime and Prime Video where available, but eligibility and the available catalog are regional. Amazon’s Prime Gaming help page provides the relevant eligibility context.
How to download the official Amazon Games app
- Open Amazon Games’ official download and installation support page.
- Select the download option for the Amazon Games app.
- Find the downloaded installer. Amazon identifies the file as
AmazonGamesSetup.exe. - Open the installer and follow the Windows prompts.
- After installation, launch Amazon Games.
- Sign in using the Amazon account that claimed the game.
Download the installer from Amazon’s official site or from the download control attached to an official Amazon gaming offer. Avoid third-party “Amazon Games download” sites, repacked installers, registry cleaners, and paid driver utilities.
Do not download the wrong Amazon app
The Amazon Games app is different from the Amazon Appstore, Prime Video app, Twitch desktop app, and Amazon Luna. The Amazon Appstore for Windows was a separate product, and Microsoft says it stopped being available in the Microsoft Store on March 5, 2025, along with Windows Subsystem for Android. Microsoft’s support notice describes that change.
How to install a claimed game
- Open the Amazon Games app.
- Confirm that you are signed in to the Amazon account that claimed the title.
- Open your library.
- Find the game. Amazon’s published guide refers to a Ready to Install area, although labels may change in later versions.
- Select Install.
- Choose or confirm the installation location if the app asks.
- Wait for the download and installation to finish.
- Start the game from the Amazon Games app or its Windows shortcut.
Claiming and installing are separate steps. First, open the game’s current Amazon offer, sign in, and select its claim or redeem control. Read the resulting instructions: you may receive a code, link a GOG or Epic account, connect a publisher account, or be directed to Luna. If the offer specifically uses Amazon Games, the claimed title should then be available in that app’s library.

The Amazon Games app is intended for downloadable Windows PC titles delivered directly through Amazon. Amazon Luna is a cloud-gaming service and may also be the current destination for Prime gaming benefits. In an October 23, 2025 Amazon staff response, Amazon said it had retired the Prime Gaming brand while continuing to provide rotating downloadable PC games through Luna where Prime is available.
This does not mean the Amazon Games app handles every current or historical title, or that Luna cloud play is available in every country where Prime benefits are available. If an offer says Play on Luna, follow the Luna path instead of downloading Amazon Games. If it says Install with Amazon Games, use the Windows launcher. Amazon’s current gaming destination is games.amazon.com, while the Amazon Luna FAQ explains the transition and regional qualifications.

If the game does not appear in your library
Work through these checks in order:
- Check the account. Sign out and sign back in with the Amazon account that completed the claim. A different household account can produce an apparently empty library.
- Confirm the claim completed. Opening an offer page is not necessarily the same as claiming it. Check for a completed claim, code, confirmation, or account-linking step.
- Check the delivery method. Look again at the offer. The game may belong in GOG, Epic Games Store, Legacy Games, Luna, or a publisher account—not Amazon Games.
- Fully close the app. Do not merely minimize it. Exit Amazon Games, relaunch it, and check the library again. Amazon specifically recommends closing and relaunching the app before retrying an installation.
- Check regional availability. Prime benefits and individual offers can vary by country.
- Check the claim window and title status. Some offers have expiration dates, limited claim periods, or title-specific activation conditions. Do not assume that every old offer remains available indefinitely.
- Contact Amazon Games support. If the account, claim, and delivery method are correct but the library remains wrong, use Amazon’s support channel rather than downloading a replacement launcher from an unofficial site.
Common installation problems
The installer will not open
Re-download AmazonGamesSetup.exe from Amazon’s official page and try again. Review Windows security prompts carefully and confirm that the file came from Amazon. If Windows blocks the installer, use normal Windows security and administrator-account checks; do not disable security software permanently to install an unknown copy.
The app installs but sign-in fails
Check your connection and Amazon credentials, then retry the sign-in flow. Make sure a browser window or sign-in prompt has not been blocked. If other Amazon services also show account errors, the problem may be account- or service-related rather than an Amazon Games installation problem.

The download stops or fails
First use Amazon’s documented close–relaunch–retry procedure. Then check free disk space, the selected installation drive, and whether firewall or security software is preventing the launcher from connecting. These are general Windows checks, not a claim that Amazon requires a particular firewall configuration.
The game is visible but cannot be installed
Recheck the offer instructions. It may require a code, another launcher, a linked publisher account, or a separate activation service. Reinstalling Amazon Games will not fix an ownership or activation problem belonging to GOG, Epic, Legacy Games, or the game publisher.
An old claimed game no longer launches
Older titles can depend on discontinued launchers, separate activation services, publisher accounts, or outdated compatibility requirements. The Amazon Games app may still recognize the claim, but that does not guarantee that every historical game remains playable under current software and offer terms.

A Twitch account may be relevant to some Twitch-related benefits, but Amazon’s documented Amazon Games sign-in flow uses Amazon credentials; Twitch is not universally required to launch an already-claimed Amazon Games title.

Mac and Linux users
Amazon’s cited documentation describes a Windows application and a Windows executable. It does not establish a native Amazon Games launcher for macOS or Linux. Depending on the specific title, alternatives may include a separate Mac or Linux version supplied by the publisher, Amazon Luna in a supported browser or device environment, or a Windows installation for games that require the Windows launcher.
