The evidence available does not show how many current vacancies worldwide genuinely accept new graduates. The practical next step is to search current listings by role and location, then check whether each posting fits your experience and eligibility.
What the available evidence does—and does not—say
UK government research offers useful context about young people’s perceptions of creative careers, but it is not a count of game-industry vacancies or graduate employment.

- In research commissioned for a campaign covering creative sectors, including video games, 31% of young people aged 11–18 expressed interest in creative-industry jobs, while 49% did not know what skills or qualifications those jobs required. These figures describe that age group and broad creative industries, not graduate hiring. DCMS, 31 October 2025.
- Half of young people in DCMS target regions thought there were not many or no creative-industry jobs in their local area. That is a reported perception, not a measured vacancy count, and it is not specific to game graduates. DCMS creative careers research, conducted 14–28 March 2025.
These findings help explain why a young person might feel uncertain about entering a creative field. They cannot tell you whether a particular city, discipline, or experience level currently has suitable game jobs.
How to look for openings that may fit a new graduate
Amir Satvat’s Games Community maintains game-job workbook resources that can help you discover listings. A workbook is a starting point, not proof that a posting is still open or suitable for a graduate. A secondary LinkedIn search result described an update to tracked openings and hiring organizations, but its snapshot does not establish the current market or the number of entry-level vacancies. - Choose a role specialty. Search separately for work in design, art, engineering, production, QA, publishing, or adjacent fields. Titles and requirements differ, so a broad search can miss relevant roles.
- Filter by geography and eligibility. Check the work location, work-authorization requirements, remote-work terms, and whether relocation is expected or supported.
- Read the experience requirements. Look for explicit language about graduates, internships, junior candidates, or professional experience. Do not assume that a junior-sounding title means the employer accepts applicants without industry experience.
- Verify the posting. Check its date and confirm the opportunity on the employer’s own current careers page before applying.
This is a screening method, not evidence that any one specialty or search route has a higher hiring rate.
Use career information to make the search more concrete
DCMS found that young people commonly look to search engines, schools, and job websites for career information, and that they consider industry professionals trustworthy sources for details such as day-to-day work, salary expectations, and career pathways. That makes conversations with people doing the work a useful complement to vacancy searches—not a substitute for checking each employer’s requirements. DCMS creative careers research.

For broader graduate-market context, Oxford University Careers Service said in June 2026 that its year-to-date CareerConnect vacancies were roughly level with the same period a year earlier, after falling from a post-pandemic peak. This is Oxford-specific and not a games-sector measure, so it should not be used to infer how many game jobs are available. Oxford University Careers Service, 11 June 2026.

What remains unknown
The available sources do not establish a current worldwide count of game-industry vacancies that accept new graduates, broken down by region, discipline, or experience level. A local perception of scarcity may reflect a limited nearby market, uncertainty about qualifications, or the mismatch between a listing and a candidate’s eligibility; the evidence here does not determine which explanation applies in an individual case. Current employer postings are the relevant check for a specific application.
